Advice please
I have found 2 pieces of what appears to be glass in a jar of coffee that we have been using for the last month. They are about 1/2 sq inch and there are also what appears to be smaller shards too.
Have written to nescafe but have had no reply yet.

what else can I do.

Wipe carefully...

In all seriousness, checked the jar for any chips etc on the inside?

You should also report it to the retailer where you bought it and Trading Standards as it could be a wider issue.

Throw coffee away and buy some more or are you expecting compensation for the stress you've been caused?

And why is this in general gassing?

Few years ago I bought a bottle of Italian Beer from Morrisons, it had a screw top.

As I unscrewed the top I felt broken glass crumble and saw pieces of glass fall into the beer. i took the bottle back to Morrisons Customer Service, thinking that this wasnt going to be an isolated damage.

Their advice was that I send a letter to the manufacturers, best piece of advice they gave me was 'they are in Italy'

Really? Not a case of there maybe an issue with the plant whereby a number of jars have been contaminated during packaging? Or someone in the plant has a grudge? Its not unknown and has happened in the past.
If the retailer has a suspect batch they can feed it back to the manufacturer and have it checked out. Trading Standards will investigate to identify the scope of the issue (one jar or several thousand?) and take the appropriate action.
To do nothing is negligent if you have nothing to gain and at best all you'd get is a replacement jar or a refund.

To be fair, the words "what else can I do" without any qualification made me think he was after compensation too.

OP - can you clear this up?

Speak to your GP or NHS advice line if you are really worried.

It's highly unlikely you have swallowed any glass as it would sink right to the bottom of the cup and stay there, so unless you swilled the dregs and gulped them down immediately, no chance. Even if you did swallow some, 99.99% of the time small chunks/shards will pass through harmlessly.

You'd probably be in hospital by now and not posting on here otherwise.

Were you trying to make a cup of coffee to go with your breakfast cereal as you were driving along?

I am just trying to make the link with General gassing forum

In a case like that, I'd say it's fair to let the makers know incase there was an issue, I wouldn't demand anything in return, but I'd probably expect a letter saying thanks for bringing it to their attention and a free jar of coffee or two.
