This may seem an odd question but can pistons of different sizes be fitted to a motor?

I race with a 1600 Kent engine using 1300 pistons. I have 2 x +30 thou and 2x +40 thou pistons. If the bores are sized correctly, ie all engineering done to spec, can there be any negatives to this arrangement?

Well the weights are almost certain to be different for a start so it's hardly ideal for engine balance.

It's physically possible to do so (and I've seen it done) but it's nothing more than a horrible bodge.

Crossflow pistons aren't particularly expensive (you can sometimes pick up new old stock ones on ebay for peanuts), so do the job properly.

I once stripped a 3.0 V6 Essex that had only done 25,000 km in a new car, one bank of three cylinders were +020 the car had left the factory like this.
We were told Ford never threw things like that away, just reengineered and put back in the production line.
