Caught speeding - Police officer used discretion
Discussion
Driving earlier going over speed limit, see policeman with laser gun in distance but Im turning off before reaching him. I knew I was over the limit, so decided to drive back around to him to see if I had been caught, would save a two week wait.
Turns out I had been caught, but he was pleased that I'd come around to him and put my hands up owning up to my mistake, he let's me off with a warning was at court speed as well so I'm glad he used his discretion as the speed itself wasn't actually dangerous. Newfound respect and I won't be speeding for a longtime.

I've had discretion used both times I've been caught. Both were court appearance speeds (97 in a 70 and 78 in a 50) but written up as just fixed penalties. On both occasions not denying it and being friendly seemed to work well, I was even complimented for spotting him the first time as he said I was already braking when he clocked me.
What speeds (your's and the limit) were involved?
It's a bit odd that he would position himself such that you could see him and turn off before you got to him.
Bearing in mind HH guns aren't reliable over much distance I think he might have been kidding you in terms of letting you off.
