S Club Barn Farm Camping 2015 Details

OK everyone, following the successful first three dummy runs, here are the details for the Fourth edition of our fun weekend based at Barn Farm Camping, Birchover, Derbyshire DE4 2BL
Sorry it's turned out to be such short notice, but this is due to matters beyond my control. ( I did give plenty of notice of the provisional dates )
The Camping Exemption Certificate has still not come through from www.gov.uk/naturalengland as I type this, so we may have to camp in the field where I have reserved six pitches, instead of our usual spot adjacent to reception as per previously.

Itinerary :- Arrive Fri 26th June to set up. Book in at reception, tell them you're with the TVR Club & they will tell you where to go.
Last time for meal orders at the Red Lion 8pm. Best to book with them in advance. Opportunity to sample one or two fine cask ales ( or white wine for the ladies ).
Scenic Run-out Sat 27th June. Starting 10:45 am from Barn Farm, 11:00 prompt at the Druid Inn Car Park. Lunch at the Ladybower Inn at 13:15 ish.
After lunch, another 30 - 40min drive to complete the run.
Evening is free to cook dinner at the campsite ( Yeah right! ) or repair once more to the Red Lion for Snake & Nail Pie & chips or similar, post-run analysis, snail racing & maybe just one more pint.
Again, best to book for your meals in advance.
The Druid Inn just down the road is slightly more upmarket for those who enjoy fine dining. ( I think they serve their black pudding with a sprightly ( dunno what that is , I typed 'sprig' but it sounds posh! ) of mint instead of a big dollop of mustard ) But we haven't sampled the food there, only the beer, which did well in our consumer test, eh Andy?
Sun 28th June: Pack up & bid fond farewells to the lovely people whose company you've enjoyed throughout the weekend. Or explore the splendid local countyside a little more. Cromford is fascinating, and there's a nice place called the Pack Horse in Crowdecote that does good food. ( prior booking essential ) I shall be meeting up there with my local TVRCC, the High Peak Nomads.
A couple of points to mention, please ensure you arrive fuelled up ready for the Sat run, its about 90 miles with scant opportunity to stop for petrol en route.
Do not try to approach Birchover from the south via Birchover Lane, it really is unsuitable for motor vehicles. Continue north on the B5056 for approx 1/2 a mile, turn right, you will see the campsite signposted.
It is at the top end of the village on the right, be careful over the speed bumps.
Please keep the noise down after 10:30pm, definitely NO number11's along Birchover High Street ( and no number 1's or 2's for that matter ! nono )
If we behave ourselves, they may just let us do it again next year.
The route will be the same as previous years, the new route we had planned will have to wait for next year, as we've had no time to do a full recce.
Andy ( Lynch ) has the route ( thanks Andy ) & satnav files ( thanks Han ) which he can email to those who request them.
I'm putting a cap on numbers of 25 peeps maximum on the Saturday lunch at the Ladybower as they can't cater for more than that in one fell swoop.

Except somebody who shall be nameless has turned up with a VW campervan instead of an S...... again!
No doubt he will be trying to cadge a lift in a proper car in the morning.
Just turning in for the night now, busy day tomorrow. May need to restock the beer supplies....
At least we should have enough bacon to last until the part-timers show up tomorrow.

Thanks Glen, much appreciated your efforts. I had a great weekend, good to put faces to PH names and to enjoy good chats and a great drive out. Thanks Lawrie for the pictures. You and Glen have to sort your exhausts, I have to get the cutters out and hit that bulkhead (after seeing how Alan and Glen now store their hoods). Alan has to sort out his peacock recordings.....

I was pleased that we were eventually able to stage our Barn Farm camping weekend after the uncertainty about the camping exemption certificate.
It came through at the eleventh hour thanks to the efforts of Alison at the TVRCC Office.
The certificate is valid for 5 years, so next year we will be able to plan ahead with certainty for greater numbers than just 6 tent pitches. Last year we had 23 on the run out, this year much reduced due to the short notice. Possibly the weather may have been a factor, but we enjoyed our topless day in the sun

Saturday night at the Druid, there was a bit of a hen party going on. Alan soon had them eating out of the palm of his hand....
Actually it was a drop of stout that they were enjoying!
But our weekend was enhanced by some more attractive birds....
Their soft calls ensured we had a lovely sleep at night....

Brief 'comfort break' stop at the top of the Cat and Fiddle.
The 'designated' TVRCC camping spot that Glen had to go to so much trouble for us to use this year! Mind you it is a very nice spot indeed. Flat, lawn quality grass, nicely sheltered, and very close to some of the best campsite amenities I know of!
