Birmingham to Goodwood

I'll be driving down to Goodwood for the FOS on friday morning at about 5 am, and don't know whether to go round the M25 or to take the A34 down to Winchester and go through the South Downs. If anyone knows which route's best I'd be interested to hear. Any tips for the day in general would also be apprectiated.
