Has anyone had any problems with their i8's, and what MPG are you getting.

I'm getting 35mpg and there's been a small amount of paintwork separation on the two tone bonnet colours - BMW are fixing under warranty, obvs.

I noted that a few PHers had compared the i8 to the M4 - one of which I own (i8) and the other (M4) I've had in various guises (manual, auto, coupe and rag top). They're completely different cars - I struggled to get more than 20MPG out of the M4. The manual is leagues ahead of the Auto, both in feel and fun. The rag top was a surprise guilty pleasure - looks amazing in Black with Ivory leather (also with the air scarf).

I also noted that 1 PHer said that his ran out of electric after 20 miles?! Bizarre, as the engine cuts in and automatically charges the batteries well before they could run out. It has no impact on the performance of the car - it's still a 350 bhp sports car in sports mode, which is exactly how it's driven most of the time anyway. The power delivery is linear and smooth. I've owned mine for 3 months and I've only plugged it in at home twice - no need to plug in.

The i8 is epic - it's the one that feels so special every time you drive it that the only other considerations for impact are twice the price.

There are only 3 things wrong with the i8 (IMHO) - the novelty of the doors have worn off, it's not quick enough (i8S can't come quick enough) and lads leaning out of their vans on the motorway videoing it is also getting quite embarrassing (also dangerous).

BMW Warwick have been brilliant as far as customer service is concerned - M3, M4, 640d convertible..... take your pick of cars to borrow when you need to.

Interested to hear anyone else's stories.

I always struggled to get 193 out of the GT3, but didn't stop me loving it all the same.

135mpg is achievable, but not the way I or anyone 'normal' drives.

I have had my i8 since the first of March having come from a f10 m5 I agree with what you have said it does really feel a special car but could do with a bit more power. However I have done 4k miles in mine and average mpg since new is 45 mpg which I think is pretty good I have had no problems with car what so ever. Although I will say the paint on the car does appear to mark and chip very easily which is a bit of a disappointment !!! I am hoping that Bmw will at some point do a software upgrade for few thinks that I feel should be on the car and from what I have been told they are not using all of the capacity of the batteries either so hope they will address this to make a very good car into a even better one !

Conversely I found the M4, Folding metal behemoth of a 'Rag top' to be most loathsome M Car I have ever driven.

This is why I hated it on my weekend test drive / loan thing.
You sit on it not in it.
It has scuttle shake
It is massive
That monstrosity of a folding top takes up all the space in the boot and makes the car shudder when it opens and closes.
The fecking noise it makes - I am not bhing about the 'Oh why did they put the noise through the Hi-Fi' I am talking about the artificial noise other people hear when you driving up the road at 40 mph - the noise is totally unrelated to what you are doing in the car. Frankly, it was embarrassing.

The things I liked a lot
Engine is a gem
Front end grip and turn-in was great
Air Scarf - nice touch I spose

Personally the M4 Convertible would be far better off if it were a 'Rag-Top'

What were BMW thinking?

Glad to hear you're happy with the customer service. Everytime i take my M4 back to have any niggles looked at, I have to kick off to have the £18 daily courtesy car fee waived and thats for a 116d...Williams Manchester for you

I have nothing but praise for Rybrook BMW Warwick - they can't do enough to help and make sure you feel special.

Miss the GT3 like crazy mind - just no room for 2 cars anymore.

The i8 is a fantastic all rounder.
