Stelvio to Innsbruck - toll free?
Discussion
Hi
I have mapped route from Stelvio on the Italian SS40 which turns into the Austrian B180 and then the B171 to Innsbruck.
I have had some assurances that this will be toll free however Google Maps is suggesting that it is a toll road.
My question is: are the tolls perhaps for tunnels or some such rather than roads subject to the GoBox system?
I don't mind paying the tolls (as much as anyone does) but don't want to phaff around with a GoBox as we are only cutting across Austria to get into Germany.
We will be in a 4.5t Motorhome, 29ft long...that should be fun over the Stelvio

I wouldn't worry. They get all sorts up there. There is a busstop at the top of the close by Umbrial pass, for instance.
I've seen ten tonne council lorries milling about on the Stelvio fixing
the road after the umpteenth land slip.
Mind you, failing to understand the Italian that the council employee
was shouting at me, and so requiring to do a three point turn in a
Jaguar that was over 16 foot long was a different matter !
NWas in Italy/Austria two weeks ago. There were no tolls on the B171. A vignette or Go box was only reqd for using the motorways. We stopped at a very good site near Stams before heading up the Ferne pass into Germany. We did the Timmelsjoch pass and it was a magic drive thru walls of snow on the top!
Back home now shame!!!
Back home now shame!!!
Thanks all
I have emailed an Austrian site as well that runs the tolls so we'll see what they say if they come back to me.
I felt sure that B roads were toll free but the magic of Google Maps suggested there were partial tolls. If these are just tunnel tolls then fine, its just the GoBox carry on I don't want.
I seem to recall having to execute some wide cornering manoeuvres in my TVR 10 years ago which will be fun in a 29ft MH
Cheers

At least the motorhome wont overheat. I have emailed an Austrian site as well that runs the tolls so we'll see what they say if they come back to me.
