So, before you get smutty and start suggesting coffee shops, sex museums and the red light district...is there anyone out there who can suggest something to do with my daughter in Amsterdam. We like music, quirky, food, off the beaten track kind of things. We have a car so can ventures out of town too. We will probably visitAanne Franks place and maybe a museum or two but we really want something different...like the Beastie Boys favourite pancake shop which is on our list of things to do. Does anyone know any good Indonesian restaurants too, I remember eating Indonesian there when I was here age.

Hotel Okura for some of the best sushi you'll ever eat & great views of the city from the top floor bar.

Shopping in the 9 streets - lots of quirky and independent shops
NEMO - a museum aimed at kids. Your daughter will probably think it beneath her but I've taken adults there who've loved it.
Zoo - Amsterdam has a really nice city zoo and aquarium Artis.
Vondelpark - often has free music on Sat and Sun
Albert Cuyp Straat - daily street market with some interesting shops 'hidden' behind the stalls.
Boat trip - avoid the big tourist boats with uniformed captains and book a tour through Boom Chicago for a 12 seater boat and take your own picnic with you.
Comedy club - there are several and most, if not all, acts will speak English
The ArenA may have a concert or game on, worth checking? Similarly Melkweg, Paradiso etc.
There's a great restaurant on platform 2b of the train station called 1st Klass. We always end there for a meal before jumping on the train to the airport.

Take the train to Haarlem, which is between Amsterdam and the coast. It's a really nice little town with a nice square for some lunch. From there hire some bikes and you're right next to the national park and you can ride through it to the coast, not too long a ride and well signed.

ETA This will also take you right up to Zandvoort park circuit.

ETA stupid phone.

Anne Frank museum. It wont be 'fun' but will be worthwhile.

I second that, its a little out of town, but the food is great.

This. But also pop along to Imogene(imowden) in Dutch I think. Get stuck in to so kibling and chips. Nice area in all really.

You mean the sushi bar that is €115 per person for the standard dinner menu? Errr, that's a bit outside our budget!

Supperclub is brilliant ...but not the place i'd take a 15 year old! The "entertainment" gets rather interesting..

Don't do it OP (just save it on your list for another time wink)

Honestly? Amsterdam for a 15 year old? not so much.
I guess find a nice cafe/bar and people watch for a bit, canal tour etc.

Yeah, big queues. You should book well in advance.

Amsterdam is lovely though, a really nice town. Take your daughter and enjoy. Lots of good shopping. Fascinating (imo) to see the bikes. It's a great town.
