UK break with pregnant wife

Just watched a couple of videos on-line and there seems to be quite a bit to do for us. With it being only 20 minutes away from London it could well be the ideal location for us. Just saying. I live 30 mins from St Albans and other than seeing friends there really is not much there at all. Curious as to what you have seen that would keep you interested?
Brighton I go to a lot, beautiful place with loads to do, parks, beaches, lanes for boutique shops and every type of delicious food imaginable among other sight seeing attractions. Stag and hen dos sometimes yes like any other big tbut you wouldn't want to go anywhere they are going anyway so not sure your point on that. More stag/hen dos in London by far.
St Albans to me just seems a very odd choice for a getaway holiday.

Depends where you go and at what time..If you go during the week, you might not see a single group whilst you're there.
OP, this may be too late, but for anyone else interested, does your other half have a heightened sense of smell now up the duff?
My wife did, apparently it is quite common. I initially dismissed it as an old wive's tale, but true:

Why do I mention it? When Mrs PurpleTurtle was pregnant we went on three "nice quiet retreat" type breaks, each one of them she moaned about the smell of damp/mustiness/"something being off" all the time we were there. She's far from a moaner about stuff normally.
In fact the only place she enjoyed on a romantic getaway to France was the cheapo overnight stay hotel in Le Mans, simply because it was Premier Inn style modern place with no "old building smells".

Not wishing to put a downer on someone elses holiday, but he's right. There's just nothing much in or near St Albans. Short of using it as a jumping off spot for London (and I'm sure there are better options on that front) I really don't see the appeal. It's not a bad place to live - although pricy - but I'm struggling to see the attraction of it as a tourist.Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I live about 5 miles from St. Albans and I really don't know what there is to do there. Maybe I'm not the best person to comment, but I hate the place. I think its very over rated. If you go to some of the pubs on a week day lunchtime, all you will see is NCT group mums with their babies!
Links into London aren't direct either. You have to get a train to Watford Junction, then its 20 minutes from there. Still reasonably close though.
Anyways, hope the OP has a nice break. I recommend the pudding stop if you do go there. Run by an ex British bake off finalist and the sticky toffee pudding is superb and one of the finest puddings I have ever eaten.
Links into London aren't direct either. You have to get a train to Watford Junction, then its 20 minutes from there. Still reasonably close though.

I agree with your other points but there is a direct line from St Albans City Station to London St Pancras; you can get straight into London from St Albans.tenohfive said:

Well every day is a school day. Glad the OP is now going to Tenerife! 
As soon as we found out we were having a baby, we booked a holiday to Egypt and it wasn't the best holiday we've ever had, but I'm still glad we went away whilst we still could.
