BMW 116i M sport
Discussion
This car has got so much kit for a 2009 car is unbelievable. Its my first m sport car, my first bmw, my first 6 speed, my first rear wheel drive car. Before you ask I just turned 20 three days ago so I haven't got an intensive car history. The car only has 45k miles and is in really good nick! The only mods I have planned are to upgrade the alloys to the 18 inch m sport alloys rather than the 17inch on the car right now. Anyone own a 116i m sport and can tell me about the engine, gearbox and the way to drive a rwd etc? Thanks

Nice car OP.
But could you please cease and desist from referring to it as an 'M-car', it really is no such thing. Brand dilution at it's worst.
Give the lad a chance! He's rightly following the rules of PH in the thread title description as a 116i M-Sport (of which they do exist). I don't he's trying to claim its a 1M, 116i M etc.But could you please cease and desist from referring to it as an 'M-car', it really is no such thing. Brand dilution at it's worst.
Nice car all the same, and can't go far wrong for your age.
I personally don't know what M-Sport specifically adds to this car but I would assume; Wheels, Bodykit, Steering wheel for starters. The engine would be the same as any plain jane 116i at a guess. With regards to RWD, I think you'll notice little difference at this power level in the dry (apart from Push instead of pull sensation. It'll become more noticeable in the wet though where you might have more fun.
Other than that, just enjoy and drive safe :-)

M sport = deluded consumer thinks M Sport brand means it's faster or somehow better.
At least it's not a diesel M Sport!
Anyway it's a Nice car for a 20 yr old to be cruising around in.
Nothing new, and BMW aren't the only ones. They seem to stick an S Line / AMG badge on anything nowadays. At least it's not a diesel M Sport!

I don't get the whole m sport hate. Op didn't say it was an m car and I think bmw realise they are producing cars with a trim name and branding close to their performance cars.
And the m sports are better, they look much nicer than the lower trim levels.
Having had a 118i, ditch run flats if it has them and the stereo is poor, so agree about the alpine upgrade, although I didn't get round to doing that. Otherwise, leave alone, I found mine a very nice steer.
