My E60 M5 was stolen overnight from a friends house in East London/Essex borders. No glass anywhere so I assume there is a way of getting into keyless cars without breaking any glass.

It's pretty distinctive in that it is Moonstone in colour, probably one of less than a handful in the UK I'd guess.

Please keep your eyes peeled and anyone who's got a keyless car, be warned if you didn't already know of the risks.

Sorry to hear that frown
Never seen an E60 in Moonstone either, must be super rare.

Did it have a tracker?

Sorry to hear that. Not common to hear of these going missing.

Maybe it was lifted? Taken for the running gear so any damage by picking it up wouldn't be an issue.

Also quite common for thieves to park them up nearby for a few days to see if they have trackers. Maybe worth a drive around?

Gutted for you. It's quite common for these to be stolen without the key fob , one of the easiest cars to steel from what I've read. That's why some have the OBD port imobilised or moved.

Hope you get the best possible outcome to the situation.

They left this behind. Is this off the OBD port or something they left behind?

I think it's the plug that is installed in the OBD socket when it's not in use.

Very sad to hear and quite worrying as well.

Was it parked on a driveway? They are not exactly quiet on cold startup.

Must be vary rare In that colour and with the tighter port security we have at the moment, hopefully it will get picked up before it escapes.

Hope the fkers stub their toe on a claymore.

Any idea what the state of play was of the security update for the windows dropping via turning the key in the door lock cylinder?

Terrible news, I'm really sorry for you.

I utterly detest these thieving bastsrds and wish them a slow, painful death.

It's hard to come to terms with things like this, but I would suggest two things: hope and pray that this car is not recovered and move on to an F10.

Do not be put off by this.

I wish you well.

Sorry to hear that.

Did your car have Comfort Access? I know that option has been an issue with later BMW's of an easy way for the cars to be stolen, but can't recall if it was available on the E60.

Thanks all. Yes it had comfort access.

I'm hearing that the scumbags have something they can insert into the door lock which sends a signal to open the door (presumably without the alarm going off)? I guess they then code a new key from the OBD. I always thought they would have to force entry into the car, which would involve some noise and maybe the car alarm going off - evidently not.

How easy is it to get your car stolen in the UK?

I believe a mode of entry is to force the lock cylinder to rotate and hold it thereby lowering the windows. Then the tea leaf can lean in and access the OBD port. The interior motion sensor is not triggered. Once the OBD port is accessed an additional key can be cloned and then it's time to say good bye to your car. The proverbial gone is 60 seconds.

BMW did issue a software update that prevents the rotated key from lowering the windows - hence my question if you knew what the state of play was on your car.

That's the port cover. They have pulled it off when accessing the OBD port. I replaced mine with a dummy which I ordered from BMW and it had this cover on it (I hid the real OBD port under the steering column).
