Cortina Automatic - I didn't buy it (swapped another car for it), but sold it withing a month because I couldn't drive an auto without occasionally trying to brake with both feet and escape through the windscreenfrown

VW Bora diesel.

For some (unknown) reason I quite like the styling, it's a (very) slightly left-field alternative to a Golf (yes, I know).

Bought one, a gem at £1,100 - most unreliable, noisy, slow, uncomfortable, bland, coma-inducing heap of unoriginal misery I've ever had. And I had a Citroen AX once!

mk.2 Golf GTI, somewhere around the point I was standing on the hard shoulder noticing the puddle of liquid coming from the water pump and the fact it was two different shades of red down one side

Mondeo ST24 and got it to replace my Sierra XR4x4 and pretty much straight away realised it wasn't for me so promptly traded it for a S14a 200SX which I instantly fell in love with.

I do like Mondeos though and owned a 1.8LX and V6 Ghia X a few years later but at the time I just found the ST24 terribly calm and boring to drive and I knew I had to get rid of it.

This thread must include anyone who bought or was given, even for free, an Insignia of any description, horrible things.

It was mechanical failure that got me.

I bought an Audi TT 225 from a colleague. Now, the price was about right and I knew the car had been well cared for. Just before I bought it, the cambelt snapped and the head was wrecked. it had been rebuilt at considerable expense to the owner at VW Silverlink, and in the meantime she'd bought a new mk2 TT.

I went and had a look over the car where it was stored, as it had been off the road for a few weeks since she'd got the new one. It all seemed to be working nicely. I paid up a few days later, handing the cash over and picking the car up in the evening. The first ten minutes of the drive were lovely, but then I noticed that it wouldn't boost properly; it'd rev to about 5000rpm, stutter and bog for a second and then surge to the redline. I thought that may have just been a hiccup, so I took it home, set it down for an hour or two and went out again at about 10PM. As I left my street, the ESP warning light flashed on, bringing me out in a cold sweat. I switched off and started again, but the trouble seemed ingrained then. I drove it out a bit and took it home, and noted that it also seemed to be running pretty rich judging by the exhaust smell, despite being properly warmed through.

Luckily, having bought this shonka from a colleague, she graciously accepted it back and refunded me, in agreement that it was obviously suffering from faults that needed rectifying. I dropped it off at VW Silverlink the next morning and never saw it again. I was gutted it didn't work out, as it would have been a lovely car if it had worked as it should have.

My car broke down and I was due at a conference the next day, so I went out to the nearest cheap car for sale and bought it.... It was a 1.3 Metro..... Oh, how that pained me....

So that's why they're driven so aggressively and badly!

Regretted buying a 1l polo coupe when my mate driving it home for me couldn't keep up with me in my Morris Minor!
Wrote it off within the first month of driving it, was probably for the best, it had so little power it once stalled out driving up a hill in 1st!

Bought an 'immaculate' Vauxhall Cavalier from a relative whose father had passed away. I'd secured a new job about 20 miles away and as I had been working in London the previous 2 years, I only had the Viper at the time, which I didn't want to drive to Luton on a daily basis! Just wanted a shed for a daily commute

Their idea of immaculate was way off mine, in fact it would be way off a 3rd world country. Even parking it in a Luton car park I was embarrassed. Lasted about a month before I got rid and bought a Mondeo ST24.

Will never buy a jalopy again...
