Le Mans Old Town Parking near Cathedral

Have found myself a place to stay in the old town for next years 24hr Le Mans and would like some advice on the best places to park near the Cathedral?

Would it be better to park on the west side of the river and walk over or park in or near the old town.

I will be arriving Thursday morning and am likely to use the car on Thursday and Friday. Parking up on Friday until we leave on Monday morning.

It's all pay and display around the city centre so expect there will be time restrictions accordingly. You'd need to find an inrestricted local street somewhere I expect and leave the car or if that idea fills you with horro, might be worth to see if there is a daily rate at the big underground parking in the middle of town?
