Long story short, had an accident before xmas, my fault & other party claiming off me.
I've forwarded all correspondence to my insurance company, today received a load of paperwork from the other partys solicitors including claim for rentaal car and a summons to appear in court in just over a weeks time "before the district judge for the purposes of having damages assessed".
First thing monday i'll be scanning all the paperwork to my insurance company.

unless i hear otherwise from my insurers, do i have to turn up in court?

Ring them on Monday, advise them of what's happened and that you'll be faxing stuff over and ask them if you neeed to attend?

Your first move is to contact your ins co to find out what's going on, then scan everything you've received and get it over to them, don't leave it till Monday, most claims depts work on Saturdays.

you should not be receiving anything personally from the 3rd party if it's being dealt with by your insurance, I'm assuming they have not intimated in anyway that they are holding the claim for any reason.

Xmas time until now seems a long time to settle, if I were the 3rd party I may be getting a bit pissed off by now

You were the driver so the summons has to come to you. Basically they are trying to hurry things along and know you'll pass everything to the insurance company. Do just that, then relax and breath :-)

Apart from my own claim being settled within about 4 weeks I haven't had any communication from the insurance company. I assumed the other claims were moving along normally as no one has sent me anything that says "this is taking too long" or "what's the reason for the delay".
His solicitor lodged papers with the court a couple of months into the claim, no idea if that's normal procedure or not?

Cheers, expected the paperwork and passed it all on, didn't expect the summons though.

This seems to be standard practice if your insurers are dragging their heels coughing up. Good job you weren't on holiday.

He has a claim in for 10k personal injury so I thought 6 -7 months would have been pretty quick!
