328 replacement /// strictly week-end toy
Discussion
Hi guys
I'm looking to replace my 328 GTS with a different Ferrari.
Ideally I would like to trade up with minimal cash supplement...I'm looking at
The F430 Spider I know would be fantastic week-end toy, I'm sure. But I'm also thinking 12 cylinders. My dream would be a Testarossa or even better a 512TR but I'm afraid I missed the train there.
The 599 and 612 on the other hand are quite reachable and I have to say I really like them. But, I'm afraid, I believe they don't make a great week-end toy. I mean they seem to me more geared for those gentlemen who look for a Ferrari as a daily driver. Is this perception wrong ? Anyone has a 599 or a 612 that is not used as a sort of daily driver of some sort ?
Thanks.....

Yes I think your perception is wrong about the V12 more often being used as a DD
One thing to bear in mind is the the V12 options are way bigger than a 328 and feel it so there may be outings that you are happy doing in the 328 but might struggle in a V12 eg very narrow country lanes or manoeuvring in multi-story car-parks

I've got a 550M and a 360CS and they are both essentially week end toys. If I could only keep one it would be the 360CS as it is more a of an event/visceral/loud/crazy etc etc
Of course. I also have a CS and that's a keeper. The 328, though, I'd be willing to let it go for a newer model. Just not sure if the 599 (or even the 612) is a good week-end toy. It seems to me that most of those cars are used by those who use them a bit more often.superpippo said:

Maybe that's an indication of how good they are, and how addictive, that people want to use them as much as they can.I have a 550 as a weekend toy, that I'd never dream of DD'ing (saying that I did take it to the dump and garden centre last weekend). Driving a Ferrari is always an event IMO, not something I'd ever want to do daily - you get too much attention

F430 spider
OR
F430 Scuderia
The problem is that Scuds have now reached a price level that is a bit outside my reach. On the other hand, I'm not completely convinced of getting rid of a car that is appreciating in value for one that is still depreciating. What do you guys think, will the F430 spider depreciate more ?

I own a late 612 one to one and use it at weekends only. Yes the car is wide, and very long however when you start to play the car shrinks around you. Oh and it's quick, very quick I just can't imagine how much faster a 599 is!
As an aside, 599's are expensive to run, 612's to a degree less so, no sure on the F430 but given the nature of the car I'm sure most have had hard life's.
For me it's V12 all day, here's hoping the price of F12's fall in the not to distant future.

Would a 355 not make a logical step up? A bit more power but still old-school. And beautiful. I won't mention values but I agree with the previous poster.
I had a 612 and in IMO is too large to be a toy. It's a four seat GT car. It'll be a world away from your 328, much less visceral and more removed from the experience with a quieter exhaust (assuming it's not HGT) and F1. It is however a massively capable car. I swapped mine for a 550. No regrets.

Thanks guys for your inputs.
My dealer has offered a straight swap with a 2008 red 8k miles F430 coupe, it looks like new!
But, deep inside, I really want a Scuderia. The sales agent though told me as prices are slowly rising owners are not letting them go :-(
I'm not too much into 355/348 unfortunately.

Personally I'd keep the 328, you can always come back and look at this thread in the future for your amusement.....328's will be the next to follow the Dino in my opinion.
Yeah I'd be very annoyed if I sell it and in a couple of years time it doubles up!Yesterday I checked-out the F430 I'm thinking to get. It's gorgeous, red, and like new.
I need to call the dealer today.... mumble mumble....
