400 bhp, seriously?

I personally love the fact both doors are clearly darker than both 1/4 panels.

What a joke, never a 30k car surely???

'I would confidentially estimate...' not very confidential if it's on the ebay advert! Do you think he meant 'conservatively';)

Whatever, I think he may be waiting a while.

If that's worth £30K mine is worth at least £35K.

It's probably a nice car but so are most of us regular PHers cars.

My guess it's worth about £15K.

Totally agree with that, it's a 98, so not one of the latest ones or anything, it's on 51k, so not low mileage or anything either.

A nice engine but other than that just a 98 500 with a bit of a bland interior and 2 odd coloured doors!
Good luck with the sale !!!

Not talking the value down, just being realistic that's all guys.
Come on, 30k?
I'm the first one to say the same as you guys have when I see what look like good cars advertised at £6995 etc, but there comes a point when you would just buy another car surely?
I love my Chim, I really do, but if I'd had 30k then I can't promise I'd still have bought a Chim.
Would probably own an M12 now if being honest.

The guy selling that car is living in a dream world.

A little effort in the engine compartment would pay dividends.

It's still running a clockwork Lucas system for goooooodness sake.

Unfortunately we all know that a standard low mileage car will be of the most value, unless maybe it is a perfect, spent loads of money on LS type of car, even then it's debatable.

Shirly it's against the law to state bhp and torque figures in an advertisement then say that they're 'undocumented' and 'estimated'?

I say stick it on a well known RR then re-advertise it with the dyno figures smile

I wonder what Fernies would have valued it at scratchchin

Nice looking car though smile

What I don't understand is why anyone would bother to create this post in the first place confused

Who cares if a car dealer is asking £30k for a Chimaera? It may well be overpriced in the eyes of many here but who knows he may end up selling it.

Personally I wish the dealer all the luck in the world with his sale, you'd never get a post like this on a Porsche forum because they're all talking up the value of their cars not talking them down. Probably because they're all ambitious aspirational types, you don't find many Porsche owners with the TVR owner's "I'm poor & I'm proud of it" attitude.

£30k is peanuts for many people these days, I've seen banker mates spend that on dinner with a few decent bottles of wine, if one of these guys wanted a TVR Chimaera they wouldn't blink at £30k.

And I suspect it's just this type of buyer the dealer is hoping to stubble on.

We live in a free market economy, that means you can sell what you own for whatever you feel its worth.

If a buyer comes along and is happy to pay the price, the dealer will get his sale & make his profit, what could possibly be wrong with any of that confused

No one gets hurt, everyone is happy and the dealer is making money like we all have to in life, pricing something strongly is not some sort of crime it's just a dealer chancing his arm that he'll find a buyer who's prepared to pay strong money.

I say good luck to the dealer, we should all respect his right to try to make the most profit he can, after all it's the foundation concept of any free market economy.

Who is the OP anyway?

Some sort of impoverished communist confused

Whats the worst that can happen here OP?

A Chimaera gets sold for strong money perhaps?

And how the hell is that bad for any of us Chimaera owners confused

Personally I think everyone selling their Chimaera should be pricing it as strongly as they dare, before long the higher prices will become the norm and the value of all our cars will have risen. This is one way the market value of anything can be influenced, estate agents have been doing it for ever!

But the bottom line is something is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, so my parting comment is...

"Let the market dictate the value"

We should all be getting behind this sale and egging it on, not critisising the seller for trying to get the most money he can for his car confused

It's got probably easily 10k in upgrades and a chassis that hasn't seen rain in 12 years - needs chassis pics in the ad to prove it though. Not bad value really - if you took a ten grand car to the same level there wouldn't be much in it.

It's a '98, I'd be worried about the chassis, that's one that TVR Eng coated themselves and usually onto surface rust resulting in poor surface adhesion.

Doubt it to be honest, the one below started at £29995, quickly reduced to £26995 and now at the below. Keep in mind that it's also a late one, better spec, "apart from engine" and cosmetically it looks to be extremely clean, obviously we can only see the body in the pics and not underneath, It's also got all it's panels the same colour.
I would just say that Chimaera's are lovely cars they really are but they are not 30k cars at the moment end of.
