You may lose radio station codes, but you won't lose anything from the BCM or PCM. smile

Cool. Thanks mate. Battery condition now dropped to 45%. 12.1v engine off. 14.7 engine running so assume alt is okay...

Totaly disconected the old battery.Replaced with new.
No loss of radio or anything else.
Having other stuff connected to the car like packs, could increase the chance of a short.

Cheers will get it done in the morning then.

BTW, local motor factors had one listed for the vxr8 - 100 AH.. one fitted is 72AH... he got it out, it was massive. Measured it, it was 35cm long. The tray is only 31cm max!
He had a quick look at the one fittd and came back out with the right size...

I usually do similar, which is why I'm not sure about radio codes.

Just asking that's all.

Mine and a few others have Varta batteries fitted and i believe some have the Bosch battery.

Which one did you get.

Dont forget that VXR8's are very choosy about their batteries and use a very specific type - not your bog standard ones.

Deviating from that screws up the charging cycle I believe.

Yes R8's are very particular on the type of battery they are fitted with,I know xmn v8 was told he had the wrong type in when we visited monkfish earlier on in the year and he had it replaced.

I have a varta, no brand snobbery here and works fine and has done since it was fitted.

I am not suggesting a brand, simply a type

Has to be silver nickel or something like that. A standard type battery, regardless of manufacturer, wont cut it.

Yes they need a silver battery due to the smart charging system that is on these cars.

Fitting a standard lead acid battery will just cause issues over time.

Heres the Varta one I have,

https://www.tayna.co.uk/Type-096-Varta-Silver-Dyna...

Prices are reasonable from this company, bought from them before for other vehicles.

Probably the wrong one!
Its a tungstone titanium. 5 year guarantee. Been reading up on these silver batteries... seems you get a bit more CCA and better tolerance to high temps (not an issue in the UK!) Smart charging systems put out more voltage than regular alternators so the battery needs to be able to take the extra current without deteriorating.
5 year guarantee is a 5 year guarantee. Lets see what happens!

Nowhere can I see that a non silver battery has any detrimental effects on the car.

Alternators on cars are matched to the battery.

You can not put the wrong type of battery on has it leads to either a damaged battery and or the charging system.

I am not just saying this for fun as i work in the motor trade.

You are better off taking that battery back if it is not a silver battery.
