Looking at getting a new TV and I'm trying to justify it to the mrs. I thought let's get rid of sky as we only really watch atlantic.

We already have Netflix and prime but obviously neither have GoT but wuaki does but that's like £22 a series

Anyone done it recently? Any tips?

We did it two years ago and moved to NowTV which offers all the shows we were watching for £6/month.

Only thing I miss is the F1.

Does Now TV have the Sky Box Sets and the like? Seriously pee'd off that I'm paying almost £40 a month. It was up at £78 but we binned the Movies and Sports. Oddly the Sports are still working - no idea why.

We now have NETFLIX and Amazon Prime, Xbox Video and Apple TV/iTunes. Could easily bin Sky completely, now, and just buy GoT.

Now TV does have box sets. I don't know if it has everything. You could check the web site.

I think you can get a month's free trial (PC or tablet I suppose, unless there is an app for smart TVs and streaming devices) or the box + 3 months is about 20 quid.

They were doing the box and 3 months for 10 the other day. I'm just looking at my fire TV stick and using that with kodi and apps seems to be able to stream loads

Bin Sky now, GoT has gone for a year, you might be offered a whizzbang return offer in 6 months plus in time for series 6.

thinking of binning sky too

watching netflix and amazon.. considering now tv too

Ive got 3 sky HD boxes so im assuming if I cancel, the boxes automatically turn into freesat boxes ( I heard you dont need to pay the £25)

it happens automatically?

anyone know?

Yeah, I've been using my Sky box for three or more years as Freesat, you need to keep the card in though. The only thing is that if you had anything recorded on the Sky box make sure you watch them all as you'll lose it as the block them.

With NowTV and Kodi I don't even bother with Freesat much. Got rid of Sky 3 years ago if not longer. NowTV has 42 boxsets and the last few episodes of GoT among others. It also has 13 Sky channels (incl Atlantic) that are streamed live.

I only have the entertainment package. Not much into the typical sports offered on that package and Kodi is a better option for Movies.

I take it kodi is dubious in legality on its sourcing of material

I haven't pulled the trigger on nowtv as there is no 1080p.

When sky launch their 4k service, I'll sign up I think

I binned Sky years ago. I wouldn't go back to them unless they significantly reduced the number of adverts. I object to paying for subscription TV that has more adverts than free to air channels especially when half of those adverts are for a service I already have - i.e. Sky.

I mean what the fk is the reasoning behind advertising Sky.......on Sky channels you can only watch if you already have Sky?

I also hate the way they totally ignore the inbuilt ad-break cuts (also known as "double takes") in TV series. Why do the TV show makers go to all the trouble of putting them in - if broadcasters are going to totally ignore then and therefore fk up the continuity.

Binned SKY only yesterday - after 7 1/2 years. Planning to use NOW TV / Freesat, spurred on by the new NOW TV Box thats coming out in August -

To be honest I am not 100% sure. Is streaming content the same as downloading in the eyes of the law and isn't it the provider of the content that is held liable?.

There were some channels on Kodi that were blocked by UK ISPs so they obviously felt there was an issue there. Kodi doesn't actually provide content though, it is just an online interface that allows users to access content from other users.

I looked at this on the weekend, went on their website and logged on my account. Went to cancel the sports (as no football for a few months and the boxing has been poor) hit cancel because 'it's not value for money' and offered £20 off for 3 months.

Did this for every other package i pay for and got at least half off on everything from anywhere between 3-6 months.

May cancel the sports when the football kicks up again as i can finally get fibre broadband and the money saved above will pay for one of those boxes for streaming footie. Money saved either way Job Jobbed

Streaming is identical to downloading in the eye of the law. Streaming is downloading, but in a linear fashion, you watch as it happens and it's not permanently saved.

I think it's already been answered, but yes NowTV has a number of the box sets but also runs most of the channels with catch-up. So whilst you may not be able to view all episodes in a particular series, you'll certainly be able to see the last few.

ITV encore is pretty good. And I caught up with something like the last three series of 24 when we first moved over the NowTV!

We have Amazon Prime too, although I don't particularly rate it. You can pay to "rent" movies on NowTV through Sky Store for a better selection to be honest.

I am a little in this boat. All i really use sky for (as opposed to freesat etc) is Atlantic and F1.

If i cancel sky i will lose out on GOT but i didn't have sky for season 1+2 and just got the box sets in september, but with the popularity and dicks on FB ruining it, not finding out whats happening would be hard.

I would miss F1 a Lot as its the only sport i really follow aside form endurance racing.

Its £45 now from this month, and TBH we have just got netflix, so Sky seems a bit redundant if i get free sat with the old unit.

Hmmm

Not a chance in hell you could go 12 hours and not know what happened in GoT. The papers are the worst.
