I have planted a herb garden and am trying to grow it organically (no chemical fertilisers / pesticides). However something is eating my basil. I am guessing slugs but have not seen any.

Any ideas how to stop this? We have a dog so need to be careful about loads of dead slugs lying around as the dog will eat them.

Keep the copper clean and bright and broken egg shells, as they are sharp

Nematodes, kill off the slugs and are harmless to non-slug\snail creatures.

Beer traps are pretty good although a bit of a waste of beer, maybe use Fosters or something. Are slugs picky about their beer?

I would have thought that all the crap in Fosters would count against the "organic" part jester
