I'm sure I saw a while ago a thread and some pics of the 4.2 RS6 V8 motor joined up to a manual audi transaxle to go in an ultima.

Given that I now know this motor quite well, it seems like an interesting idea to put in my spyder - but I can't find the thread Can anyone point me at it - I've searched a fair bit and can't find it - I can only find one with a porsche box done @MRC or the V10 one.

Not the one I'm thinking of, unfortunately - it was definately a post on pistonheads.

Nope, sadly. That's with a G50 box - this was specifically with an audi box. Maybe I'm mistaken and it wasn't on pistonheads - thank you all for looking.

I believe there's a Sport in Spain with Audi engine and box that I saw on here but don't think it was a specific thread on it just a couple of photos on someone else's thread.

Theres a yellow GTR. I know Doug from MRC as I still muck about with Audis.... this is the obnly one hes done AFAIK. Its also a G50 box. BUt you could use a 6 speed A4 diesel box (2wd) with a gripper diff that would be a cheap alternative with mild adaptation to the fitment I beleive.
I love the idea of being able to dialin as much power as you like with the turbos but a turbo power delivery is not what I'd fancy in an ultima TBH.
Here is a couple of links from their build and a vid:

Thanks for all the replies.
This is the thread I was looking for - apologies, it was on an S6 motor, not on an RS6.

Really just wondering whether to chop in the G50 and SBC adaptors I've got to go all audi, or go audi motor & G50, G50/SBC or G50& LS something. Or even left field and leave the UN1 that's in it at the moment and just replace the motor.
Lots of options!

Historically, I'd totally agree with you. However with ECU controlled boost, this is a gamechanger IMVHO since you can fully control how and when the boost comes in. Even though the RS6 motor is a relative dinosaur (I'd describe it as the last evolution of "classic" tech), it has smallish turbos that come on boost quite early on and are pretty linear all the way up.

Fair point, but TBH most of the modern tech is about emissions and not necessarily about out and out power. I reckon the 5v per cylcinder is a more power config than the 4v varient even with FSI..... maybe... smile
Such good motors....

Peak power will be the same no matter what the ECU is doing to control boost (assuming same peak boost pressures). Have a look at the new Ferarri 488gtb that Chris Harris did a review on recently. The level of toque mapping they do is mental. Not only by gear but rpm and throttle as well. Makes the car feel NA but with a load more shove! Lol
