My father in law asked me to help him buy a senmsible performance car to use in his retirement. Nothing too serious as he has grand chldren to cart around.

I helped out and suggested an Audi A4. He bought a 11 plate A4 2.0TFSI quattro S line. Its a nice car, but after owning for a week or so, we noticed the dreaded oil burning issue. This is documented here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/Gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Anyway, long story short, Audi finally helped contribute to the overall bill to repair as did the garage we bought the car from. The car had pistons and con rods replaced at a cost of around £5k.

Now the car has started to develop a judder when pulling of from standstill. Swindon Audi have investigated and have stated:

"Speaking with Darren there is a definite judder when pulling away which he would attribute to the flywheel. This will not go away and over time will get worse and will happen on every gear change rather than when pulling away as it is at the moment.

Audi offer a fixed price for replacement of the clutch at £999, there would then be the additional cost of the flywheel which would take the cost up to £1964.73. This is the worst case scenario.

However in our opinion it will need this repair carried out sooner rather than later".

Do these prices quoted seem realistic? £1k for a clutch replacement seems a bit steep and an additional £1k for flywheel?
Is it worth pressing Audi to contribute to some of the repair cost as this fault is well documented on the internet.

Anyone had any sucess with claiming for this repair?

Thank you.

Clutches on those can start to judder fairly on in life. Unless it's really bad just live with it until it needs replacing.

It's a wear item on a 4 year old car with 60 odd on it.

Thanks Dr G - A local non Audi specialist Indie has quoted £1k for clutch and DMF installed. Parts will be LUK parts. Is this worth considering?

Perhaps a freindly Audi indie in the Slough Area could quote?

Further required please.

Audi Swindon have quoted £1900 to replace the clutch and DMF. The parts are about £600 from Eurocarparts, so £1900 seems a little steep.
I thought I would try to ask them for a gesture of goodwill - the DMF judder is all ove rthe internet.

Swindon Audi have told me that this includes a very heavy 'substational' discount and indicated that this would have cost Jo public (whoever he is) around £2.5k.

Is this true? Anyone here work for an Audi dealer? Please could you indicate a cost of clutch and DMF on a 11 plate Audi A4 2.0TFSI Quattro.

Thanks.

One of the many reasons I got shot of my A5 was down to clutch judder. VAG do seem to suffer more of it, but £1k for a flywheel is a piss take.

The Audi Saga continues and at home we are now calling this Audigate.

They made me jump through hoops this time last year to get the oil burning engine sorted. Three months later they admitted the issue and offered free repairs.

Audi UK have been good, however, all the audi service centres are franchises. Even Audi UK sturggle to get any sense from the franchised dealers. The lady i have been delaing with at Audi UK is struggling to get simple answers from Audi Swindon. Its shocking.

Long and short a clutch replacement is a fixed price of £999. A flywheel on top cant be that expensive - but they are adamant that £1900 for the lot is a very reduced rate.

Does anyone know who the manufacturer of these parts are? I checked on Eurocarparts and have seen:

LUK Clutch kit 641442810 @ £158.40
LUK DMF 336444880 @ £402.00
Total £560.40

That means that the remaining £1400 is labour. Even at £100/hr thats 14 hours work......

The saga conitnues.

We asked Swindon Audi to replace the clutch and flywheel after they came back with a competetive price of £1900 for both including labour and warranty.

When we drove the car there it worked just fine, with exception the juddering - diagnosed as a worn DMF. Swindon Audi found that the DMF was blue and heavily worn, the clutch was on the way out too. When we collected the car, it made a rattling noise and my father in law noticed that it was really down on power.

He took it back after two days and they have had the car for the last week. I received a call today - They replaced the DMF with a new part (again) and this has cured the rattling. The juddering has also gone. However, the lack of power is now a broken/faulty inlet manifold. Coincide that this is faulty after it went to Audi?

I tried to tell them this today and they wouldnt budge. They wanted £690 for the inlet manifold supplied and fitted. I pushed them on this and they have finally agreed to supplying and fitting this for £330.

I have asked for the old inlet manifold to be kept so i can see what the issue was. I hope that this is the end of the issues and the FiL can enjoy his car again.

We are certainly getting some bad luck with this car!

My b8 a4 has a degree of clutch judder. It's been in the family since new and has always suffered to some extent.

Now on 115k and still a bit juddery- but otherwise happy.
