we've had a sky+ hd box for about 7 months, it's never been perfect but just recently it turns itself off and either takes a very long while to restart or won't start at all.

it is connected to a tv in the sitting room via a hdmi cable (on a splitter with a dvd, there's only one cable in the wall to the tv) and a tv in the kitchen via a magic eye.

any ideas why it won't just turn on?

thank you

Power supply could be failing. Get another one, there are loads on eBay/gumtree.

Mine does this every so often, just pull the power cable out, plug it back in and it sorts itself out after 5 minutes

If you pull the mains lead out of the back & put it back in at the same time as holding the back-up button on top of the unit then it should connect to sky & re-boot your system. Takes a few minutes but should work properly from there.

now let me remember it was only last week this happened to me , I googled it and got a very good reply of : turn power off , wait 5 minutes , turn power back on and hold down the back button on the sky box , this sets the box to do a complete reboot and download latest sky software , wait ten minutes then hit back up ON THE REMOTE CONTROL and all should reset perfectly just like mine did .

ended up a stage further.

turned off at the mains,
hold down the left and right arrows either side of the reset button,
turned power on whilst continuing to hold these down,
continuing holding them down until the blue circle lit up,
hit reset
waited for about 20 mins and then it rebooted

apparently you lose everything if you do this, but I had no settings or recorded stuff anyway.

This method saves any recordings you have.

Isn't it still under warranty? Can't you get a replacement from Sky?

Once they start playing up they only get worse in my experience.

I had this with the 1tb hd box just under 2 weeks ago. Ended up with a free sky man visit and a free upgrade to a 2tb box as my one was nackered. Sky man was surprised as the 1tb boxes are supposed to be very reliable.

Had tried the options mentioned above and it would never get past the orange light.
