Yes I know there's a sticky on 'which console' but it last had an entry 9 months ago and doesn't seem relevant.

My question is - which console is the one to go for, that is the easiest to use, least issues and feels the most complete?

I have a PS3 and an Xbox 360 now so I'm not bias.

Forza is my favourite game and 6 is out in Sept but keen to not close off other choices.

Thoughts?

I had a PS3 and 360 and then bought a Xbone and never looked back. Lots of games I enjoy. So it's really a personal thing.
Just look at the current games and see what console has the most games you like and play. And get that

best advice I can suggest

I have both.

My mates all have the Xbox.

The PS4 doesn't get a look in, and probably won't until Gran Turismo comes out.

I was a 360 user.

At upgrade time the thing that made me switch to PS4 was the reported frequency of systems software updates on Xbox One.

I don't have a great internet connection so I figured this would become annoying.

Having said that PS4 and games seem to have fairly regular updates but it's all handled as background tasks so fairly unobtrusive - I think Xbox One has also improved in this area.

PS4 is good. Although I'm finding "next-gen" very underwhelming.

They are both good. However, what do your friends mainly have, for online gaming?

Get which ever your friends have.

The only other reason to pick one over the other is if you must have one of the exclusive games such as Gran Turismo or Halo.

AS above, get what your friends have. Any perceived benefits between the systems tend not to matter when all your mates are playing on the one!

I have an Xbox One and love it. I have sky going through it to the TV and use voice control switching between TV, Games, Netflix etc all the time. The fact one voice command turns the xbox, tv, surround sound and sky box on in one is nice as well. Plus I cant wait for Halo warzone multiplayer!

+1. I had a 360, but all my friends had Playstation's so when the 4 came out I got that. Much more fun to play with friends than with strangers

Thanks for the responses.

My friends all have a 'Kid'. It's basically a small entertainment unit that's free to get but all the add ons get really expensive, DLC is mandatory and again, very expensive. It crashes a fair bit and needs to be turned off 4 times a day to allow it cool down before rebooting.

Everyone has one and they all say how great it is but say it with a sad, tired face and keep talking about the day they can get rid of it.

So I'm left with playing on my own smile

I have both systems and use them both equally as my sons have one of each system and I have to play Destiny with them both (it's a tough life smile).

The PS4 wins hands down. The user interface is more intuitive, the controller input to screen action latency feels a lot shorter (both systems have the video settings optimized for gaming) and most importantly, it doesn't lag as much when playing online. I think the graphics have a slight edge (only using Destiny as the comparison) and some of the upcoming Sony exclusive titles are going to be amazing.

Indeed, same here. I have both. The PS4 feels like a slicker product in terms of slightly better graphics and a better menu system. The Xbox One has a better pad and a better achievement system. The Xbox One gets about 90% of the playtime, if not a little more, because my friends have it and it's typically my first choice for titles that come out on both platforms.

Neither - personally I would stick with your PS3 / 360 for the moment.

Cant comment for the PS4 (but doubt its any different) but the game selection on the XBO is seriously limited and a vast majority of them are expensive, over hyped, linear, bug ridden, reruns of seriously worn out franchises.

If its not a new AAA title that fails to deliver anything but disappointment, its some lack lustre reboot of an ancient 360 title or a less than great, puddle deep "indie" game for £15.

I upgraded from a 360 and seriously wish I hadn't bothered. On the 360 there are so many great games that never got around to playing which are all now available for pocket change or given away for free on XBL. If I had stuck with the 360 I also probably wouldn't have had to buy another game as the XBL game freebies are so good! Unlike on the XBO where the XBL give aways are just total drivel.

The XBO is better than the 360 in every way - its significantly quieter, better sound and graphics and it can also multitask meaning you can jump from a game to netflix for example and then jump back without having to load the game again.

The area that the XBO falls flat on its face (at the moment) is as a games console! Thankfully looking at E3 that MAY change towards the end of the year but at the moment there is little to recommend adopting a new console.

There are only 3 games that I enjoy playing on the XBO - 2 of which are available and near identical to the 360 versions (Titanfall / GTA5) and the Witcher 3 which is a new release.

Personally I would save you money towards the end of the year - whilst I can only comment first hand on the XBO friends with a PS4 have said very similar about the system.

Can't help saying it, but if driving games are your thing, then it's PC all the way.

I bought aseto corsa in alpha through steam and now have a game akin to forza for 5 pounds.

Just buy a cabled xbox pad and you're away.

This is good advice.

The only title on PS4 / next gen that is worth the investment right now is Witcher 3 ( IMHO ).

There is no "wow" about the XBOne or PS4 other than a little more graphical polish here and there - and even then you look at something like Tomb Raider on 360 and I can't help think that the new consoles haven't pushed things ahead that much.

Was in the same position at the start of the year as you OP and went for a PS4, simply because in terms of console-exclusive games, The Last Of Us Remastered was the only thing I was dying to play after a year of absent gaming whilst overseas. I never tried the XB1 so can't compare, but the PS4 is perfect for me (I was a 360 gamer in previous years).

Had both, an Xbox One and PS4.

In terms of online, the Xbox has it, better visuals? PS4.

I ended up trading in my PS4 for another Xbox One. I couldn't get time with the Xbox as the OH was always on it!

I went from 360 to PS4.

Wanted the XOne but I like my cabinet close to the wall and therefore nowhere convenient to place the external power pack. This is the only reason I went PS4.

Agree though there's no wow factor with these consoles - slightly faster load times, better graphics and the fans are a bit quieter. Given the millions of sales I'm surprised we're not getting blockbuster titles at the same pace as the previous gen.

7 months in I only have Destiny and Pro Evo Soccer. Nothing else is appealing to me at the minute.

Loved my 360 and regret selling it. The PS4 is very clinical and I haven't turned it on for months now.

I do keep hankering for a Xbox One though. Forza 6 looks great and backwards compatibility interest me a lot.

So - ignoring the friends part, I'd say:-

Cross platform games are very similar but PS4 has a slight edge (in side by side comparisons)
People seem to prefer the CURRENT PS4 interface.

Xbone has backwards compatability
The interface is getting completely re-worked and early impressions are it's much better
The xbone has had a lot of development poured into it over the last year...and will continue to do so
You will be able to stream games to any windows 10 device
The kinect is quite cool for automatic login, turning on all your gadgets, and easy access to system features....shouting "xbox record that" after a great gaming moment is just awesome, and better than pressing a couple of buttons.

I am biased though as I have an xbone but not a PS4 - so please seek other views!
