I have both, there's very little to choose between them. Which one do your friends tend to play on, and which one has the exclusives you like the most? That'll be what should ultimately sway your decision.

We have both (and had both previous gen consoles).

I prefer the ps4 as a console, the Xbox feels like it's trying too hard to be a multimedia machine which when you have a smart TV is a bit pointless really, but while I prefer the ps4 the one has the forza franchise which is streets ahead of most other driving games especially grand turismo.

So base your decision on what your friends have and what games you want, there aren't many proprietary games out there but if one is important to you like forza it makes your mind up.

The only other point I would make is I have had zero reliability issues with the ps4 yet the xbone has frozen, crashed and fuzzy screened/speaker buzzed a few times. Does concern you a bit considering the franchises previous reliability issues.

I like both controllers, probably prefer the ps4 slightly but there isn't much in it if you have an open mind.

I also have both and in my opinion the PS4 is a higher quality piece of kit, it looks better and feels more tactile.

I also prefer the PS controller which is slightly more comfortable in my hand than the Xbone. Finally I would agree that the PS interface is much better than the Xbones.

I swore I'd never buy a Sony product again after their security breach and implementing of Cinavia.

When my PS3 was nicked I replaced it with an Xbox.

Thanks for all the responses.

With regards to the friends thing I'm nearing 40 and don't tend to hang at mates playing or have mates that really play much- due to a really busy job and kids I tend to shuffle into the theatre room after wife's gone to bed and play solo games but am getting into online a bit.

It's interesting about the 'stay with the PS3 and 360' comments' as I'm still not done with what I've got - Forza 4 still gets ragged (especially after a naughty hack to give me $400m once I'd done everything) and after the cack that was F5 in tempted to wait and see if F6 is any good part from looking gorgeous.

Would be great if someone released a slowed down FPS where you take your time like real life not the 'rush rush shoot rush shoot everything' FPS that seem to be so common.

With regards to the get a PC comment it's too expensive to get a really really good gaming of and I just want to sit in my recliner in my theatre 4m from a big screen and I'm not sure if a PC is suitable for that. Plug and play ease of just getting in and on with it is key, hence console.

It has been an interesting convo so far and my take outs are:

- no choice is stand out - both have their pros and cons. Xbox One seems to get the nod anecdotally.

- wait and see seems to be a strong theme given an underwhelming choice of games so far.

Well if it's any help, and after being on the fence since the relapse of the next gen consoles I have just bit the bullet and bought a shiny new Xbox One, only plugged it in yesterday.

We have an Xbox 360, and many many games for that console that we still enjoy, both myself and Tom my son who is almost 9!

The reason we have finally gone Xbox One, the recent announcement of backwards compatibility did it for me, and I know it will take time to catch up with all the games, but we will keep our Xbox 360 too, as you can share your Xbox Live account across both machines without any issues, or having to buy another membership etc!

Another reason for me, is that new upcoming games like Fallout 4, seem to be what the platform is crying out for, and will justify the graphics and processing Capabilities of the Xbox One, finally!

Happy with our purchase now, seems better in many ways, and I could never justify the cost of a PC as a games machine, so for me these consoles, and for us the Xbox One has finally made sense.

Good luck with your quest!

Check out Destiny, you really can go at your own pace as a fps. Available on both consoles.

Is there any single player content / campaign in destiny or is it all about the multiplayer?

There is a lot of single player stuff or you can join strikes with random people, the servers match you. Alternatively you can 'meet' in Destiny with people you know.

I tend to go around on my own or join random strikes as the mood takes me.

The latest Wolfenstein might be right up your street, it's single player only and you can choose your strategy and take it slow and stealthy.

I had an Amiga. I just thought I'd refer to the technology war we had in the early nineties. smile

I've been a console fan for years. I have also been a PC gamer. At the moment, I'm into a bit of PC gaming as I recently upgraded my machine.

There is simply nothing in the latest generation of consoles that makes me want to buy one. They aren't that much of a leap forward and there aren't any specific titles that grab my attention. They are also too restrictive in terms of modding and server setups etc.

I know it takes time to harness the power of a piece of hardware, but they have been a disappointment so far. Of all the people I know who own a new console, all but one say they wish they hadn't bothered at the moment.

I may change my tune when we see the power of them being used better. However, I think that by the time that happens they would need to release another generation of console. smile
