Swap for an R8 ??

Get the V10, remap it, Miltech exhaust, it gives you 595hp at the wheels, derestricted too, having had the Porsche and now the V10, the V10 puts a smile where it should be, its not all about performance, one against the other, two different cars! if you have the itch it has got to be scratched!

I agree that its not all about performance, but the V8 was dull though. With the V10, the performance is fine, its the potential running costs I have been hearing that bother me. £7k clutches and 10mpg just aint for me, so once a bit more research done, if all turns out to be true, will be keeping my 997TTSump said:

The V10 has a 90 litre fuel tank which does give it excellent range for a thirsty car.
I'm getting about 180 to 200 miles (driving like Miss Daisy) out of a tank in mine, didnt realise it was a 90 litre tank, so reserve must be huge !!I never really got the "997 turbo is boring / clinical" debate. I came from several TVRs and Lotus and I find the 997 turbo to be a lot of fun. I also love that, compared to cars like the R8, it is small and nimble. I drove a friends V10+ R8 and while it was more modern than my pathetic 2008 997 turbo, my turbo felt a lot faster more "real". Personally I don't need showing off downshifts with lots of revs and big exhaust notes, I get off on going fast around corners, finding the right line etc (i.e. actually driving). I was disappointed, I had always loved the look of the R8 and really wanted one
I also drove the 991 Turbo S around a track and on the road and so far I will be staying with the 997, I will upgrade to an S however

They do look the nuts, but after the V8, am seriously contemplating keeping my 911, the idea of switching back is a good one, but I genuinely believe that in a couple of years, I may not be able to afford to switch back, manual turbo's are on the move price wise, and while they will never command GT car money, they are going up, will try a V10, and go from there. PS, saw a 4.0 GT3 RS yesterday at £425,000 - Unreal !!

Cheers for the update OP - I still think the R8 is a step on from the porker, even if its slightly slower to 190+
Tbh, I find R8's the same as any other Audi. Bland, not very exciting and doesn't look like a supercar. I have an S4 at the moment as my daily driver and I absolutely hate the thing.Cheers for the update OP - I still think the R8 is a step on from the porker, even if its slightly slower to 190+

All of these engines are manufactured in Salzgitter, Germany.
The factory produces over 30,000,000 engines per year from 4 litres to theoW16"s.
Visited the factory about 15 years ago. Amazing place.

Misunderstood the German chap.
Back in 95 when I visited and they said 34,000,000 and I did repeat several times "per year ?, per year ???"
But now I understand that was the total since the factory opened in 1970.
Thanks to all you guys writing back, and I really do listen to what you have to say, but as yet, still have my 997TT, nearly stepped head first in to the Cayman GTS but the kudos of the "911 Turbo" stopped me, daft I know, cause the Cayman drove superb and sounded breath taking, but I still could not get past the "its a Cayman" bit, so until I'm sure, the 997 stays. thanks to all again.

Wow, I didn't realize there was a demographic of tattoo'd geordie shore types driving around in R8's - this must be a UK thing. I've only had positive reactions to my car.
For me it was between the 997S Gen 2 PDK, R8 V8 R-Tronic and Granturismo S. I needed an everyday car that was more exciting than the Merc it replaced, outright speed not a priority. The Porsche was the most comfortable and had the best tech. The Maserati the best noise, woeful infotainment but useful rear seats. The Audi, horrific gearbox, nice ride and more dramatic looks than the others.
In the end, after putting a deposit on a FFRR Supercharged I went back and bought the Audi. Still learning how to use the gearbox but the car has been faultless, looks like a supercar with the running costs of an RS4.

Evening all, its been a long time since I posted on this very subject, but have pulled the pin today on a manual V10 R8 with just 11000 miles on it, its a 2010, nicely spec'ed car with plenty of carbon and extended leather etc, collect it tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice, I shall miss the Turbo but a change is as good as a rest eh :-)
