Reckon I'll still one up! Can't find these ADT ones online. Some Yale ones look ok.

Seems most of those with LEDs run off batteries but this area wont have access when the scaff is down. Be good if they did one with a little solar panel or something.
Have a look on eBay for ADT boxes - a genuine ADT install just uses dummy boxes with Battery powered LEDs and an internal sounder anyway.
PITA as the batts only last a couple of years and it means ladders or an ADT call out charge to replace.

Dummy boxes are certainly worth it. If there are three vulnerable houses and one has an alarm box (maybe) on the wall which will be chosen? Burglars are not researching your property and alarm company in advance unless you are a high value target, most thefts are opportunist.

Alarms work regardless of whether they are monitored or not, they create unwanted attention that the undesirables do not want.

ADT alarms are not serviceable by anyone except ADT.

so when they start being unreasonable with customer service and /or charges then guess what your options are?

NONE.

You can get all the same functions as an ADT alarm with an alarm provided by your local security - these will be open protocol so you have a choice as to who maintains it.

Ain't so. The alarm can be taken over & maintained by anybody. (We've taken over 100s). The equipment remains basically the same, just some tinkering with the signalling.

Good to hear things have changed since I was involved with ADT/Tyco, they really pissed off a lot of people with their closed protocol systems.

Looks like Focus (whoever they might be) have done it too!

Interesting.. thx smile

So, what do folks think, this unit with an ADT sticker?, or will the scroats just look at it an say "ADT don't do those boxes, fake!"

It's possible I'm over-thinking this of course....

No one would be bothered about that at all. IMO get a legit looking one or don't bother at all.

Why not get a DIY alarm? You can get some wireless kits quite cheaply.

ADT Fire alarms are closed protocol, they are built by adt and installed by them, they have to be there to add stuff but any company could do a maintenance.

Their alarms are just branded honeywell galaxy's, you just have to crash the system and start from scratch and invert the monitoring inputs.

Lots f the £99 alarms they lease. If you cancel the contract you have to pay.

Tyco no longer owns adt either.

OP any bellbox with a sticker on will do, im sure there's a few old chubb ones on eBay. Or just get a delta bell x which everyone uses these days
