As an aside, because it's very much pre-1980s...

These...

...were apparently given away by Kelloggs in the 1950s. There were a few still kicking around at my grandmother's house in "The toybox under the stairs".

My uncle had painted them when he was a kid, although most of the paint had come away over the years. Two generations of play value from something that fell out when you opened a box of cornflakes! Brilliant!

A cousin of my grandmother invented the idea of free stuff in cereal back in the 60s, and then expanded the business to do world cup coins etc with Esso fuel in 1970. And onwards from there. Ended up with a huge marketing firm and made millions. Still got the complete set of 1970 WC coins in the loft.
So you are related to the Kellogg family?
Afraid not. Kelloggs are in the business of making cereals, not plastic George Best figures. So they outsource their marketing to others. That's where my gran's cousin came in. Unfortunately, none of the wealth found its way into our side of the family!

Does anybody remember back in the mid 80s there was a cereal where you could cut out the back panel and make "animal head trophies"? Sure I remember cutting out and having various animal heads like a deer on my wall??

That kind of thing but the pack of cereal when you cut it out etc actually looked like the animal with features!

It must of been in the 70s when we got talker tapes or talkie tapes in our packets of Ready Brek.

Strips of red plastic with a serrated side so when you ran your thumbnail along it you would hear a tiny bit of one of Churchill's speeches for example.

"Some chicken, some neck" is the one that sticks in my mind.

That rings a bell.

It was something to do while you waited days and days for the postman to arrive.
Speaking of which I noticed the other day some growing kit being given away by Kellogg's at the moment has delivery 'within 90 days'. Must be using Yodel.

Whilst on the subject of old cereals, something has been bugging me for years, there used to be a cereal (I swear it was Kellogs) that I had at my grandmother's as a kid. They were small round discs about 5mm in diameter, kind of like flat, round Rice Krispies.

I thought they were Ricicles but I think they were just frosted Rice Krispies, then I thought it was a previous incarnation of Special K, but they've always been flakes.

Anyone help?

I had/have some of those! I was born in '73 though, so they must have been bought at a jumble sale or something.

Yes I remember these - I think they were the original Special K?

Sounds like the old special K. It had an almost polystyrene texture if memory serves me correct.
