Anyone seen any ridiculously cheap deals to Greece?
Discussion
fd,
Sorry to correct your view about the price of cars in Greece. My brother is married to a Greek lady and he has bought a car in Greece several times. In general they are more than twice the price of the UK price, and if you want to export it the export taxes are very high too.
Now, if you fancy an executive jet....

With all the turmoil going on and a thread of worried holiday makers, I reckon there must be some amazing deals.
Fancy driving to a London airport on Friday with the family and flying to Crete or another Island for a long weekend
Any ideas?
I'd be worried about getting there and there being strikes etc.....how will you fly home if air traffic control isn't working ? There is a very real danger of at least one of the banks going bust. Your cash card won't work is the bank is insolvent.......Fancy driving to a London airport on Friday with the family and flying to Crete or another Island for a long weekend

You should absolutely take all the money you would possibly need and more for emergencies in cash.

+1. Has always been the case. My father drove his mark 2 Jaaaaag there in the late 60's to sell it as there was a massive premium at that time for such cars. Job done. I'm in Greece now (Nidri, Lefkada).
Getting cash is a problem - most of the ATMs are empty so you need to hunt for one that still has money.
Most businesses will no longer accept credit cards - most notably hotels. They simply don't believe the banks will be able to repay them.
Other than that, the only sign that anything is wrong is that there are noticeably less tourists than there should be.
Everyone is waiting for the referendum result. If it's a No I think things will go into meltdown,

But that was the case, it certainly won't be in the future, when most Greeks will be looking to sell anything they have for anything they can get......

they seem happy about it
- they wouldn't be fked in the first place
- they wouldn't have elected those maniacs
- they wouldn't have voted no; sending themselves into the abyss whilst still truly believing it's a good move
