Morning Guys..

My windscreen washers have stopped working - it seems there is no power is getting to the washer pump. I have looked over all connections ( that i can see ) and it all seems to be in order.. this leads me to think its a fuse / relay problem but I dont know where to start from this side of things..

Just wondering if someone wouldn't mind assisting at BBWF to try and fault find / resolve the issue as at the moment i'm using a plastic squeegy bottle with water over the top of the windscreen !!!

I have had some hehe, nono, yikes, rofl and thumbup mind you from people who have spotted me washing the windscreen this way whislt I have been whistle haha..

Cheers.
Dom

Hi Dom,

Have you checked you are getting 12v feeding the pump ?
I had this problem a couple of days ago and it was a broken pump.
If I make it to the fest (my 390 is having new track rod ends today but I still have this permanent missfire problem) I will bring my multimeter if you like ?
Regards

Hi Ian.

No, haven't checked the pump for a 12v supply.
I do have a multimeter which lives in the 350i boot - will have a check and see.
I haven't been too worried about it as it isn't having an adverse effect on driving.. however. I know its an MOT Failure which is slowly approaching.

Hope to see you at the fest.
Cheers

You can buy another pump in Howlfrauds for about £10...Its much easier than learning how to use a multi-meter..smile

Mmmm...scratchchin...Could rig one of those up to a jet on the rear bumper so that when you get tailgating tw@ts you can squirt a thin oily mix at their windscreens...Not enough to cause a major accident but just a little milky for a few seconds...Thats enough to scare the shyte out of them...The added bonus is that they won't see you doing it.smile

Dead easy Dom, take the connecting wires of the pump and connect to the multimeter, ignition on press the washer switch and see what you get ? (should be 12v)

Or on fleabay for £3!

You don't get +12v to the pump until the washer button is pressed - for testing I wedge a sponge between the door and stalk to keep it pressed down...

Ditto. Boot full of spares - just in case - every shape and size of hose, spare belts, bits of cables, hose clamps, tools, wet wipes, jump leads, tow rope, two old socket sets, spanners, head lamp bulbs. All sorts of crap. Oh, and bottle of whiskey for the raffle. Despite the new boot seal the overnight kit bag will have to sit on the rear parcel shelf so at least the missus wont have to worry about smelling of exhaust fumes.

Dom did I spot you coming back from the airfield spraying your windscreen from a pop bottle? (A technique that I have used too...)

Yes you did - 1st time I tried it whilst we were on the duel carrigeway - Myself and Malc got more water on us than the windscreen smile.

2nd time was whilst stopped at lights - it worked that time .. hehe

Hi Keith.
Have been meaning to post up a massive thanks to you for helping to sort the washer pump out..

It did turn out that the 12v feed was ok but the pump was knackered. Luckily enough, I had another one with me which sorted the problem..

Now I'm missing using the water bottle.... doesn't seem quite the same adventure just pressing a button on the stalk.

haha..

Thanks again..
