for the last week or two, I justcan't get stuff to load up - Forum is ok when I eventually get there but anything else I give up on.

One of the issues seems to be "Long running script error" - I've no idea what that means but any advice appreciated.

Which sections of the site are you struggling with? News? Classifieds? (obviously you have said forums are ok)?

Also, what browser and operating system are you using?

I've been getting that too.

I'm on an old laptop, IE (something ancient) and a terrible internet connection. The homepage takes half a minute to load.

I'm afraid anything pre- IE7 we are not supporting anymore, we had 561 sessions using those browsers over the last month and it isn't financially viable... now if you are using IE7 or later then let's talk smile

I'm not sure why telling a long term customer he's obsolete, financially unviable, and you don't want to talk to him deserves a smiley face.

It's not unreasonable to drop support for older browsers - Google dropped support for IE7 back in 2011. Alternatives (Chrome, Firefox) are available for older OS and they're both more secure and faster.

That's the smiley face that comes when you don't have to support a bug on ie7. A smug smile. A smile that makes you realise the world isn't so bad after all.

Because sentiment is hard to convey in written word, and thus the smiley shows a slightly tongue in cheek response, especially as I do not know if you fall into my statement or not - as you stated above you did not specify what it was but said it was old.

If you can provide more information on your actual system you are having issues with then we can help you.

slow running scripts. 35 seconds to load the front page. And, I'm afraid these appear to be unique to your website.

Just tried it on IE11 - about 10 seconds to load. However, the page is nearly 5MB in size, so if you're on a slow connection that might well be relevant.
Google suggests minifying the JS & CSS files, plus enabling compression ( https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insi... )
