With live strava segments. They're going for full integration, it seems. As well as the recent 20 (think that's what they called it) which is super small - seems they really are covering all bases.

Although Strava Live Segments will be available first on the 520 (more info on that below), a firmware update in the third quarter of the year – so some time between now and the end of September – will make it available on the Garmin Edge 1000, 810, and 510 devices.
I must remember to watch the road, not the little screen on my handlebars!

I'm looking forward to getting the update on my 810. I haven't actually bothered to sync segments on garmin connect across to my 810 though as it seems to be quite a bit of a hassle to tell me that I am 3000th around a certain segment.

Ride faster, and it will give you better news!

Really not sure about these advantages of the new model. More buttons, more faffing = more chance of an accident. I do find the 510 a real clunky piece of kit and its spat its brains out a few times but as long as it supports the updates I think I'll stick with it.

I'd have preferred to see better routing, my 510 is useless at following a course and showing directions

If you want routing you are suppose to buy an 800 series or 1000, 510 isn't sold as a routing computer it's just for logging.

My 500 would follow a breadcrumb trail very effectively, even with alerts when I approached junctions

But the 'proper' nav on my 810 is rather lovely......

I wish mine was, doesn't matter how well the tcx file was prepared with cue sheet etc, It never tells me when to turn smile

I got to Paris using my Edge 500's breadcrumb capability - it was great! Also did the Yorkshire tour in May with it too; once you get used to it, it's very good.

It is but I find it is a bit random the functionality you get. For example, I can create one course on Garmin Connect, upload it to my 510 and it will load perfectly, warn me of upcoming turns, give directions and let me know when I am on a Garmin segment.

The next day, I can create a course, load it and I get a crude breadcrumb trail with no other functionality. I asked Garmin about this and was told to do a factory reset.

Ah I didn't realise it could be so varied. My 500 only has the breadcrumb so I've never had more. But for a 510, that sounds less than perfect! I know Gruffy's 800 sometimes just decides not to tell him up coming turns (but shows them). That kept him on his toes for Yorkshire biggrin

I think if you want "satnav for the bike" then the 1000 is the way to go, i've ridden about 2,000 miles with mine and it's not missed a beat in terms of getting me lost!
