Most fun/best handling - what bike 2k?
Discussion
So hopefully in the not so distant I should have a two stroke 250 classic race bike to track and compete on.
My other bike(road): cb500 isn't cutting it anymore.
I want to swap the cb for something a bit more fun for the road. All out speed and power is not what I'm after. I want something to 'practise' on for the road. Something with decent handling and let's say atleast 60hp. I might track it now and again.
For back ground I ran a chr600 for a number of years. I'm kind of thinking of getting maybe a car600rr, 2003/4ish (appreciate this will double my budget).
Any suggestions for whatt might do the job? Vfr400? Zx4r? Cbr600? Race prepped cb500?!
Thanks

Hornet 600's are good fun, you should be able to get pretty much any 600/750 sports bike from the late 90's early 2000's in budget, speed triple 955's can also be had, each persons definition of fun is different, you could be like me and just try one of each and every bike in budget :he he:
I'll never sell my NC30, it's just a lovely thing to ride, yes it's not a high performance sports-bike and yep, it's a little compact, but what a little gem, fantastic noise with a nice can on it, and great handling, they're just so easy to throw into corners and actually use the power. Definitely a classic.
I don't think you'd ever lose money if you bought the right example, that said, it'd be worth checking out any of the Japanese 400s as they're all well screwed together but it's the VFR which for me stands out with its V4 and mini-RC30 looks.
I'd reccomend a jap made 400, if you can find a later CB400 vtec model they're good fun. 50bhp, decent size tyres (160/60 rear) and nice and light, handle brilliantly and you can redline in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and still not be doing much over the NSL. Good for 120mph and when the vtec kicks in they sound awesome.

From my expierence , you'll find it hard to beat a GSXR750 SRAD for 2k or under, the trick is finding a decent one..to be fair that applies to most bikes at 20ish years old...
Agreed, or a Supersports 600 (I'm thinking R6 specifically, but they're all better than most riders).Trouble is finding a good one, so best to buy on condition and 'evidence' of good maintenance IMHO.
Something like this (provided you're small enough to fit!), this is bloody lovely!

This.. get the 750Or if you want a litre bike then the Daytona T595 or 955i (they are both 955cc) is a good shout.

Well I have owned both bikes and I dont think the SRAD 750 is faster at all. However it probably handles a bit better and is a fair bit lighter.
The only issue as mentioned is with trying to find one that doesnt need a ton of work.
I have had 3 D955i's and an injected SRAD 750 so I'm qualified to comment as a previous owner, the 955 may have a bit more midrange but the GSXR has the better top end in my opinion, and is a better bike, again in my own opinion, the 955's have better brakes and a nicer sounding engine but the riding position (of the bars especially) is terrible, the 955 works much better as a speed triple, which I have also owned The only issue as mentioned is with trying to find one that doesnt need a ton of work.

The Gsxr 750 is a much better bike than a 955i, its also faster and more comfortable, they are a bit of a bargain for the performance they offer, I have just sold mine but I'd thoroughly recommend one to anybody, they are great.
Indeed. I have also ridden both... the 955i is a good bike, but heavy as fk and the chassis feels like its made of pig iron! Jazoli - mate i didnt think your were unqualified to comment.
OCD - Heavy? You know what? My 03 955 feels pretty light and well balanced for a 200kg bike and it handles very well. I was surprised myself. I must have bought a nimble one.
The main thing the OP will have to do is get his hands on a SRAD that isn't shagged.

I had a Gsxr750 in 98 so it was the first of the injection models and it left Triumph for dead, in fact it was so fast it kept up with a Fireblade, just lacked the grunt out of the corners.
This was my first introduction to big bikes and I was blown away by the bike, I think to this day it is still the best bike I have owned.
