Had to take my helmet off when filling up today in one of the sttier parts of Bristol.

This just makes me irrationaly angry furious

You have my number plate, why do you give a st what I look like. It's just a faff, especially when I have earphones in.

Luckily it's only happened twice.

1st world problems....
What is so difficult to understand about 'their premises, their rules'?

As long as it's legal they don't have to justify it, just as you don't have the give them your custom.

I've never been asked to take off my helmet in forty years, if I was I would find it more convenient to ride to another garage than mess around with gloves, keys, helmet, glasses, earplugs etc.

Their premises, their rules, my freedom of choice to go elsewhere.

I'm happy to respect their rules but it takes me an age to get my lid on and sorted comfortably, scarf, ear plugs, glasses on top of the gloves and faffing so I tend to just go elsewhere if asked to removed it, no biggy, plenty of places to choose from.

I just find another fuel station.

Worst case scenario, someone steals £20 worth of fuel and you have the bikes details.

Jobs worths.

Worst case is every bike that turns up steals £20 and a few of them also hold up the station and clean out the tills. Insuramce costs rocket and the station closes, causing jobs to be lost. Meanwhile, the local police are tied up trying tomdeal, with this easy to fix situation whilst some more serious crimes are being carried out.

Note the use of worst case scenario.

I know, I know smile

I just felt like a rant, I'm not trying to make a point.

Although if I stole a bike, I'm not entirely sure I would to a petrol station to fill up, seems a bit risky...

Bob not been back to explain the silly policy?

A group of local garages have this implemented. Instead of a simple polite sign they have a laminated A4 notice stuck to each pump with various 'FAQ's' as to why you should remove your helmet. It's written in an entirely patronising and condescending way and I understand it causes quite a bit of anger which usually gets directed at the person on the till. I don't ride anymore but tend to avoid using their garages now as they just come across as a bunch of s. Awful but true.

I'm out and about today so will get a photo.

Worst case and entirely unrealistic.

Since when was the worst case realistic? It's a worst case, you know, the extreme scenario.

I never get asked to take my burka off when I am filling up in my car.

I also caught a train dressed in full burka into Liverpool Lime street, but the transport police escorted me out of the station, dispite me trying to keep it low key.

I was going to a fancy dress party in the city centre at the time.

Its my fancy dress costume of choice, I only strap the painted red toilet rolls to it when I arrive at the venue.
This made me laugh !!

Of course, this will all backfire on them one day, as according to the police, only helmetless riders are thieving scum........sort of:

This. I really do wish people understood that policy is defined by people further up the chain.
You enforce the rules you become the face of those policies. I don't work in retail, but thats my job as well. I also get to take reponsibility for other people's mistakes as is the joys of any form of management. Its part of the job.

I don't support being abusive or intimidating, but there's nothing wrong with voicing your frustrations.

I'll be honest though I just pay at pump or take my lid off. I think all businesses have a right to decline to serve people based on them refusing to show their face.

Some remarkably tenuous reasons right there coffee

Also I'd be surprised if a single person has been ID'd for purchasing fuel.

Well that was disappointing Rick. I waited in anticipation of something akin to those Police recruitment ads that were posted on here, yet you then go on to deliver something which sounds reasonable and polite, if a little far fetched.

For the record, I'm in the 'ranting militant' camp on this issue.

Doesn't mention anything about removing earplugs, so the first one on the list is clearly bullst.

The one about static is crap as well, you're more likely to build up a static charge whilst getting off the bike. Unless you cuddle up to a (metal cased) petrol pump there's nothing that's going to help ground any more static charge whilst your off the bike.
