Build Date

Hi All,

Can anyone confirm a build date for a Chimaera?

SDLDCC4PXSL011XXX

Am I right in SL making it November 1995??

Fits with the tables I have, so I agree its Nov 1995.

It's usually on your birth certificate (or passport)

Birth certificate doesn't carry by build date, exactly... that would be 9months prior and not an event I want to know too much about!

Check your VIN number.....

10th Digit is the year code :-

L=1990
M=1991
N=1992
P=1993
R=1994
S=1995
T=1996
V=1997
W=1998
X=1999
Y=2000
1=2001 etc

11th Digit is the month build code :-

A=JAN
B=FEB
C=MAR
D=APR
E=MAY
F=JUN
G=JUL
H=AUG
J=SEP
K=OCT
L=NOV
M=DEC

The last four digits of the VIN number are the build number for the year e.g VIN number ending 1111 would be 1,111th vehicle of that model built that year.

Bear in mind that the difference between build date and 1st registration can be quite large due to many factors e.g cancelled order or dealer demo etc

I had a Chimaera chassis 1250 built in March. Could they really have built that many in three months?

Highly unlikely, and that assumes TVR started "the year" in JAN perhaps it started in April withthe tax year so your MAR build was actually month 12?

Is there any way of getting the build on a TVR or TVR Club letterhead?

I am going to need to prove to our local government officials when this car was built, as it needs to be 20years old register...

Mine is XB which would make it Feb 1999 but it was registered in March 2000 (?). Could have hung around I suppose but that would be a long time.

I think your year codes may be one year out. That list may be for USA VIN codes. I was under the impression mine was 'X' for 2000.

Can't find the link to the list I used at the moment.

TVR years started in October to coincide with the motor show.

That would make more sense from a chassis number 1250 perspective. Does that mean A=October, not January?

TVR Car Club Archivist ( [e-mail] ); provides build certs for proving TVR Historic Status on road tax issues.............I'm sure he (PM me if you do not have his name) could advise / help
