OP - if he had his marbles and was an retired accountant and you wife was not in the will, it's not a simple oversight. He knew what he was doing. You might get more luck trying to claim your wife was his illegitimate daughter and you'd get a lot more.

Old people often say things they have no intention of doing and many will use the 'promise' of money as a control device. It's one of the few sources of power they have left. I learned to take much of what they say with a pinch of salt. The will is really all that matters except in the most exceptional of circumstances. They don't apply on the basis of what the OP has said.

To be fair to the OP it think that we have a biscuit taker in the office at the minute.

Overnight a Client has taken a very bad turn for the worse. They are not expected to last the day, let alone the weekend. One child is currently at the hospital spending their last few hours doing what they can. The other is sitting in their car outside mum's house (it will surprise you that they don't have a key...) "To make sure nothing disappears without them getting their fair share." Oh and apparently they have a mate with a campervan that they are going to borrow tonight if nothing has happened by then.

BTW the person sitting in the car hasn't spoken to their mother for a number of years, and only knows that anything has happened as the sibling has been trying to get them to make their peace with mum before she passes away.

Ah yes, a death; whether it has happened or might be about to/is going to happen, it brings out so many peoples' true colours .

My late wife's family were proper live ones ; from the rooting through the house in my absence (planting adult mags under the bed caught them out ) to sending me a written list in the post of my late wife's effects which they want (she died intestate)... I can laugh at the absurdity of it all now (and there was much much more going on than just this), but the rooting through the house in my absence happened on four occasions while my wife was still alive but in hospital rather than at home!! They pied about for just under two years (and for the first 18 months of this my wife was alive), now I ignore them and don't respond to their increasingly irregular attempts to make contact.

Nasty, frighteningly-materialistic people (and they don't speak very highly of me, they never did - her sister telling my wife early in our relationship that I was only here to feather my nest should have been a warning sign ).

I've probably mentioned this on here before, but when a relative was dying (in hospital) one of the children (who is not in this country) was asking why her house was not up for sale yet "because she isn't coming home is she" and when the car will be sold so he gets his share of it....

The other bloke is a bit of a mong but it's quite silly to point out someone's incorrect English and then fail repeatedly in your own post.

I had no idea wills were available online till I read this thread

For a bit more entertainment I had very, very distant relatives who lived a long, long way away in a crap part of the country

(Insert distant = long way away pun as appropriate)

They were cousins of my father and had no living family themselves
Due to my best mate settling in their home town I saw a lot of them from my 20's upwards

One day he said that on account of me being a decent bloke they had named me as the sole beneficiary of their will
Which was nice - and clearly I am a decent bloke

He pre deceased her and again as my matey lived nearby I spent a lot of time with her
She then developed brain cancer and started to behave in a strange manner

She died shortly afterwards of said brain cancer and spent a lot of time with the "kind" bloke round the corner and the local church
During her illness she behaved weirdly and refused to see me and the kids whenever we asked to visit

At my best guess her estate was worth 50k tops
Beer money for your average PH'er but a decent wedge for me

At the time I wrote it off as I didnt particularly wish to flog Jesus for taking what I had been told was rightfully mine

Having paid £10 Im now waiting to receive a copy of her will
Its still a mixed bag - in my opinion her brain cancer affected her personality which may have had a strong infuence on her changing the will her deceased husband had mentioned to me (also available online)

But if i contest it I cant see Id get anywhere other than taking care in lifts (Omen reference)

Do you understand what 'comprehension' means?

Pistonheads isn't a grammar competition, but you do need to be able to write a post that can be understood and I'm really struggling to understand what your point is.

One level of pedantry may be enough for you but to others each post must be written to the quality of an English Language dissertation!
