The money they have spent on sending me 'reminders' must be adding up right now.
Had one doorstep visit, but was out.

The BBC isn't perfect by any means, but it is still the best broadcasting organisation in the world by a distance , and we are lucky to have it. It's one of the things which makes Britain British.

I would happily pay my licence fee for Radio 4 and TMS alone, so I regard the current fee for the whole BBC a bargain.

The fact that the BBC and the licence fee annoy all the right-wing Thatcherite, Murdoch-worshipping haters so much is another benefit.

I assume you're left-leaning - if that's the case, it's only natural that you think it's great.

I don't care much for Murdoch or anyone else for that matter, but as far as I know, I am not forced by threat of fines and possible imprisonment if I renege on my SKY or Amazon Prime subs - but I am expected to help fund the crap you lap up as long as I watch live broadcasts that aren't even BBC-related!

But I bet you want them to pay it though so you can carry on listening to the early evening communist programme. I wouldn't say the licence fee annoys me either, it has nothing to do with me, its gets mildly irritating when one of their salesmen knock on my door but they are soon dispatched so no bother really.

I still watch a fair bit of BBC programs etc, so I am ok with paying the fee. I'd be less so if it were ITV as I rarely watch their channels.

Thats great but you can get all the BBC stuff on iplayer without having to pay the licence fee. Its just a voluntary contribution by yourself.
If everyone did that you wouldnt be able to do it as they wouldn't be able to afford to put any programming on Iplayer!

The cost of the BBC is significantly lower than Sky and for that it provides the TV channels and local and national radio channels.

What alternative funding arrangement do those who dont like the licence fee propose?

I don't live in the UK now so don't need to, but I absolutely refuse to pay it and never have paid it in my life. Never will.

Also point out for anyone who is interested:

You do not need to let "TV licence inspectors" into your house, they need a warrant. They never get these warrants.

They do not have "detector vans" which can tell when you are watching TV. They have bullies and chances who will try and force or trick or threaten their way in. That is why they prey on foreign students, the elderly and the poor.

I stopped paying it a good year or two ago, don't miss it at all. Don't like a lot of British TV and really dislike just about every piece of BBC programming.
yes

When visiting my parents and having the pleasure of live TV broadcasts, we realise just how bad British TV is.

We don't miss it at all. Far happier with the likes of Netflix smile
What other countries have better TV than Britain?

Do you watch anything on Netflix that was produced by the BBC?

I'm pleased to see the "pay willingly" vote is currently in second place which on PH takes me by surprise. I'm happy to pay the fee, just to get the radio.

This is what makes me chuckle. Far happier with Netflix!!! The ammount of crap American stuff on there and you think this is better than the BBC? Perhaps this say more about you than the BBC.

Does he need retesting?
I don't think so. In any case, retesting shouldn't be determined solely on the basis of age; but that's a different subject altogether. As you were.

Change it from a licence to a subscription and make iplayer available only to those prepared to pay the subscription.
Why should those who pay the licence fee subsidise programmes for the "dont watch live" mob
