it's a sorry state of affairs when Mazda make better Alfas than Alfa. Discuss.
hehe

Mazda2 vs. Mito = Mazda
Mazda3 vs. Giulietta = Mazda
Mazda6 vs. nothing anymore but let's say the 159 still existed.. = draw. possibly Alfa wins the rematch
Mx5/Roadster vs. nothing = Mazda
plus Mazda get bonus points for making MPVs and SUVs that look good (cx7 POSSIBLY LESS SO).

It's a good job Mazda haven't got a carbon monocoque knocking about.. hehe

[brisk goes to put hos nomex long johns on..!]

Mazda has always made pretty good cars though.

Sure, the styling is usually a bit crap (like the other Japanese car firms) but they're still good cars (like the other Japanese car firms)

Actually I'd give bonus points for making the bonkers 2.3T AWD CX-7 smile

Shame they have nothing fast or decent any more. frown

I had them phone up the other day wanting to invite me to a vip thing (basically just a sales exercise). I told them I wasn't interested as they'd stopped making any interesting cars and they were all now too slow.

that's the thing though - i think to a heck of a lot of people the styling is miles better now. the mazda 3 does a much better job of being an alfa than a giuletta..

I've just looked up the Mazda 3 and I think the Giulietta looks much nicer. I have no experience of either car though

Indeed. And Alfa seem to churn out very disappointing cars so not sure this is much of a thread wink

Isn't the next GTV going to be a restyled Mazda? Surely that would make up for all other losses on Alfa's part?

Or did they decide that'd be an Abarth in the end?

I've got a lot of time for Mazda. Love my 6 and I followed a new CX-3 yesterday.
Looked really good, definitely better than the Juke and the like.

IT could be down to Alfa need to play it safe in the market and sell what people now want as apposed to the sex god machines people will lust for. I have owned an Alfa and loved it to bits. They designed good looking cars but got bad press for reliability. They need to make a profit and in todays market that means diesels and average looks. The 159 in my opinion is still far better looking then any Mazda but thats where it stops and I like the Mazda 3 and 6.

The interior of an Alfa is also a very nice place to sit in.

Mazda make absolutely st cars. They've not once made a single good vehicle and I don't know how they're still in business.

Personally, I wouldn't pay a penny for one of those pieces of crap!

I just did a google image search for each of the current Mazda cars, the man has a good point! (ETA: not the man above me, he's clearly been swapped to the wrong meds so we can just pat him on the head and say "yes, yes" with a subtle hint of sarcasm)

In doing so I finally figured out what I've been following to work a couple of times recently, a new Mazda 6 it would seem. I kept thinking it was a nice looking car but never got close enough to see the badge clearly.

Not bad inside either!

I take it you have either owned or had extensive driving experiance in a Mazda in order to form shch a strong opinion

But then having looked at your profile and garage , Have you seen a doctor regarding your memory lapse

I would have thought the Alfa 4C would be the MX-5 "equivalent".

I've got a pending order for a Mazda 3 Fastback.

Test drove one for a few days a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed.

Recently, Mazda are in a completely different league to Alfa. They produce some of the best looking mainstream cars, and arguably the best cheap drivers' car... Alfa currently produce... two very ugly hatchbacks and by all accounts a thoroughly underwhelming sports car? Mazda have made several fabulous cars since the last desirable Alfa, IMO.

For a driving enthusiast, Mazda have been a class above Alfa since the 90s. Frankly Hyundai are a class above Alfa at the moment. Hopefully the new compact exec can change that.
