Spitfire just flown over Sheffield

i was cleaning the car and it flew right over our house ! Awesome big grin time ! As soon as I heard it thought Merlin ! fantastic :-D

I heard it first then rushed outside to see it heading north (I'm in Chesterfield).

One flew over our place (Chandlers Ford) a couple of times last weekend.

Unmistakable noise.

You never know, you might have heard a Griffon.

So, with Spitfires, it can be an eminently mistakable sound.

Probably the same plane that flew over just West of Leeds, there was a Gala on and i'd assumed it was a flyby for that, but could be wrong. It flew over Wakefield last weekend too.
All I know for certain is it made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and made my day.

That's BBMF's clipped wing spitfire TE311 with bubble canopy. It's a Merlin engine.

Did it have the bubble canopy? Most Spitfires flying today are indeed Merlin powered - but there are a few Griffon engined examples knocking about too.

Difficult to tell as it was silhouetted. It sounded bloody marvellous though and that's what counts ;-)

It didn't look clipped to me and I thought 'Griffon'.
