Hi Guys,

The M5 came this week happy with it! Will post a full comparison when I get a chance between this and the E60 M5.

I had a coupe of questions regarding the car pre running in service;

Only covered 200miles..

Brakes squeak really loud is this normal?

Is the power restricted until the running in service is done?

Don't have an M5 however the brakes did the same thing on my M135i for about the first 1000 miles, they take a while to bed in!

The brakes need to be used to break them in....squealing should not be a problem.

Power is not restricted to begin with.

Take it for a run to the other end of the country and back....get the 1200 miles out of the way.....and hang on for dear life when you gun it thereafter.....it really does rev for a turbo and offers a lot at the top end....most people change up too early and miss out!!

I'm in love with the pops and bangs it makes!!!

Will upload some once I've taken some decent ones. I've gone all black everything Saphire Black on Black Wheels and Black interior.

Snap (except wheels) - Sapphire Black and black interior is a classic combo and totally suits the car. Still love the look of it after 3 years. Enjoy!

Perhaps the only thing about my car that annoys me - the squealing comes and goes, usually appearing after longer periods in traffic with light braking.

I find that a short drive with some aggressive braking will normally solve the problem.

Never had any noise from my brakes but I guess after 21k and needing new disks shortly I possibly use them quite a lot and they are scared to make a noise wink

That may be why mine are quiet....lots of good use?

My brakes squeal like pigs in certain circumstances they don't like being used lightly in traffic etc...No issues on a run/motorway or spirited driving just when you're having to use them on long downhill sections in stop start traffic.

And lets bust the myth, there is no more power after the run in service.

The only issue I have with the car is the dreadful traction in 2nd gear even at low revs when going for an overtake or wanting to push on, maybe it's just me but it's annoying, the TC comes down like an anvil.

I only tend to use 2nd on overtakes when I'm trying to make a point! What happens if you use MDM in this situation? I haven't actually tried it yet.

The shift between 2nd and 3rd is amazing sound wise. What's the best setting to have it when changing gears S2 or S3? I want more pops and bangs lol

The power gauge on the idrive system is amazing. Shows the bhp and torque!!

My brakes squeal from time to time but the majority of my driving is in stop start traffic. Doesn't bother me too much.

Love the pops and bangs too! Although seem to happen randomly would love to know how to make them a permanent fixture.

The blat/pop/fart (choose your own description) noise happens on an open throttle up shift if you lift off it doesn't happen, full bore up changes give the loudest noise (well that's what I find), I get no pops/crackles on over run.

Well it didn't drop to second I was in second having turned at a junction, I find the TC is on all the time when exiting T junctions or roundabouts even on light throttle, if I put my foot down the TC shuts everything down, the vans I tried to overtake just drove away from me!....laugh

Oddly though if I'm setting off from a straight junction then the TC doesn't really intervene and allows wheel spin.

The system doesn't like having even a slight amount of steering lock on and the light flashes away on most journeys.

I'm confused to be honest as becomes a pretty slow 560hp car in certain circumstances.

MDM isn't for the faint hearted on public roads, it can bite.

I'm by no means an F1 driver however we know they have cars with massive torque and can't simply mash the throttle - you'd go faster away from the lights in a Fiat Punto I'm sure

The same applies to the M5, even starting in second I find I need to use my foot carefully and by feathering the throttle you can make rapid progress even out of a t-junction.

Winter brings a whole new experience and I'm glad I have winters, they make a massive difference in stty weather yes

Difficult to explain and I'm sure it's me not the car, but I'm not talking about mashing the throttle, away from the lights it's fine as I said even when I do mash the throttle or apply a decent amount.

But there are certain circumstances as I tried to explain (admittedly poorly) where the car bogs down for no apparent reason, gentle acceleration off a roundabout or from a junction (when turning left or right) the TC really doesn't like it.

Other times you can mash the throttle and it grips and goes so there is an inconsistency in the response but I guess there are many variables at play.

Could be a set up issue with my car etc...

I think in which case I know what you mean.

I travel home and there's one junction (T again) that regardless of how gently I try and accelerate onto the new road the car just won't get going for a few seconds, the lights are on and then..............wwwwwhhhhhoooooossssshhhhhhh.

Possibly simply down to a lot of grunt and running 'normal' tyres rather than say Cups?
