When we go on holiday my wife hides her inherited jewellery (about 5k) somewhere in the cellar.

Last week she put an old cat tree on Ebay small ads and gave it away for FREE.

Today, preparing to go on holiday she realises that the jewellery was in the cat tree and she can’t find the number of the guy that drove away with it.

I laughed, now I’m crying… F-ing women.

Ouch. It's probably your fault, somehow.

As said, it'll be your fault somehow. Try not to laugh in her presence. rofl

I'm amazed that anyone could go to the trouble of listing something to give it away, without realising they'd hid a fair bit of money inside it. Your fault for not reminding her!

What's a cat tree?

Something fire brigades practice rescuing cats from?

Wow.

Gutted for you.

It'll end up in a skip one day, with jewellery still inside...

Or hopefully they'll find it, be decent human beings and call you to hand it back.

Wife once took an expensive diamond ring off & left it on the side in the kitchen.

Her son thought it would be a good idea to wrap it up in tin foil. But didn't tell anybody. Kitchen is tidied up, little ball of tin foil thrown in the bin.

Panic ensues when she realizes she has lost the ring. She turns the house upside down can't find it. Eventually empties the bin. Then finally unwraps the tin foil to find it.

I believe there's a feature on ebay where you can send buyers a message.

Well, bugger me with a cactus...what a coincidence.

I acquired a similar cat tree via ebay and that was full of jewellery too. I'd give it back, but I can't remember where I picked it up. Some people are just plain unlucky....

£5k of jewllery and no safe for storing it securely or adequate insurance? You're daft.

Ha! That cheered me up a bit.
Well a number, may be the correct one, has been found but currently there is no answer. Just assuming the phone might have been left at home and will try again tonight and then contact Ebay.
If anything interesting happens I will post an update, but it would be worth dumping an expensive phone for that value.

I my book, this is absolutely fine. It's basically cost you £5K to have the final say in any argument.

I half want my Wife to burn the house down by mistake (with nobody in it!)... I'd be on easy street then.

It's clearly the OPs fault for not reminding her that she'd stashed the jewelry in the Cat Tree. Now he'll have to make up for it by buying her some replacements, I forsee an expensive couple of anniversaries/xmas/birthdays OP.

If you get through, tell them your cat is really, really pissed off and pining for the tree. So much so, it's ripped the postman to bits.

It might be a bad idea to say it contains five grand.

I don't even... I'd like to say that if that were me, I’d keep the jewellery but unfortunately I believe in karma so would just end up handing it back. If you do get it back though be sure to give the guy something for his trouble.

By the sounds of it the OP could be worse than giving him his wife!
