Hi guys, I'm after some thoughts as I'm going to be buying a new GT / Coupe in the next month or so to replace my Tuscan.

My initial thought is an early V8 Vantage Aston Martin or Maserati Granturismo, both of which can be found within my price bracket. Current preference is the Aston, and I'd welcome any thoughts on those or the Maserati, as well as suggestions of other options for both sporty drives and long-distance touring. Oh and for the record, I don't want a Porsche or a BMW.

Cheers

Paul

a C63 instantly sprung to mind.

I could be wrong but I believe for the money your 'only' going to get the 4.2 Maser as opposed to the 4.7, and from what I gather on here the 4.2 is not exactly going to blow your balls off. It is still such a beautiful car though.

EDIT: when you say Coupe I was reffering to only 4 seats... seen as you've mentioned an Aston Vantage I suppose your opening up a lot more avenues with 2 seaters.

Jag XKR?

Yes, the 'coupe' tag refers to the body style rather than number of seats, 2 seats is perfectly fine as would be the 4.2 Maserati or 4.3 Aston with regard to engine size as they are still quite capable.

I'm not sure about the big Merc, I see them as being a fast version of a daily driver, than something special for the weekend. Jag is a good shout.

First world problems an all that, but I really think you'd be disappointed with a V8 Vantage.

They're getting on a bit now and the early ones aren't that fast or good to steer. Granted I've never owned one, but the one I drove for an hour didn't blow me away at all.

C63 is always a good shout. I'd say you're discounting 2 of the best options by not wanting BMW or Porsche, so maybe go Maser if you want more of an 'event'.

I'd be going M3 or Cayman S, personally.

I was just thinking this myself (F-Type). Looking at the classifieds you'd currently be about £10k over budget for a coupe. Only a question of time before they're in range though.

V8 R8's are around £40k now aren't they? If you're not interested in a 997 Turbo I'd go for the R8.

The Audi and 997 leave me a little cold, no matter how great they are I just don't 'want' one if that makes sense. Some other good suggestions, cheers.

Skip the baby Aston & go for a DB9.

You'd get a great one with that budget & a 6lt V12 to die for.

That's what I did (albeit a convertible)

It depends what you want, the C63 is great but it's a bit shouty and isn't the most composed. V8 Vantage is a thing of beauty but isn't that special inside for the brand, for a GT I'd be looking at the Maserati. The Bentley just doesn't do it for me at all, but then I've got an M3 which is probably the polar opposite of what you are looking for smile

Nice problem to have.

XKR is a good shout. The value of those is expected to be pummelled over the coming months/year though. I enjoyed the AMV8. It turns heads and sounds amazing, the ride is hard. 4.7 Maserati I have always heard is the best one.

I'd say go for the Maserati they're great cars, they're reliable but the one change I'd make to a 4.2 is to do the resonator delete & X pipe it for a nicer engine not.

Or how about a CL63 AMG
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...

Or a Maserati Gransport

I'd pick V8 Vantage over the DB9 I wasn't impressed by the DB9 that's why I bought the Maser

Can you push the budget?

And if you are struggling to choose between leather, tartan, snakeskin and walnut, well why choose?

It completely depends on your priorities. For that budget I'd go for an Evora S, but most would probably find a nice 997 C2S, or a newer Cayman S, although I realise that you don't want to own "a Porsche" rolleyes Those are probably the driver's choices.

I'd worry that the Maserati Granturismo might be a bit GT like, but they're beautiful things, as are the AMG SL Mercs, which is another heavier weight option for this money.

I've heard some dissapointing things about the Aston V8V that would put me off one, but are DB9s available this low? (the internet at work is too slow for me to check).
