Hi,
does anyone know if there is a good alternative bonnet lock which will fit the Sag ?
I've had two brokwn locks now, each time the small pin/bar being broken, so wondered if there was anything better.
Ideally something which doesn't require the bonnet modifying.

Would be interested in such a modification too...this connection could not be the best solution...

cheers Josef

I'm getting the petal plates you lock into made up, should have some in a few weeks.

Improve locking by filing out a groove in the back of them and adding tap washers from b&q to the other side of the pin to create resistance and job done smile

In terms of alternatives my mate has them on a Cerbera, push and click. Simple mod but need diameter correct on Sag given existing lock.

Here's my existing crappy plate. I've just filed a groove underneath to catch the pin, about 1 mill deep and 2 mill wide.

My problem isn't with them coming undone but with the actual pin breaking.
There has to be a much nicer solution.

Here's a selection:

And probably the better option, although not sure if diameter right:

Or get titanium pins tongue out

Here's some larger diameter ones 44mm which may do the trick.

Thanks for the links.
I like the look of the push button quick release. Will have to investigate this further.

I used these when one of my pins broke. http://www.europaspares.com/flush-fit-keyed-bonnet...
Took the old ones out and popped these in. Went straight in the same hole and fitted the existing mechanism. No modification. That is not to say they will fit your Sag....as you know no two are the same. For £16 worth a shot.

Thanks Ken,

I'm waiting for someone to phone me back about the original locks and also looking at replacing the broken pin with something else but I'll give those you've linked to a go if I get stuck.

mk1fan, I was trying to find a solution which didn't need the bonnet modifying.

JLF, I've bought a set you linked to. The fact they're a proper lock and can't turn without the key will stop them coming undone on their own. Only problem is the body diameter is a little larger than the original lock so they don't fit through the hole in the bonnet so that'll have to be increased slightly. Same with the chrome disc on top of the bonnet. I'll get there eventually.

I used the old chrome disk on my car however the hole needed to be widened very slightly which I did with the trusty Dremel. On the bonnet they fitted but were very tight. If needed I could have widened the hole in the bonnet to make the fit a little less tight and saved some time.....not a big issue as it would have only been a couple of mm.

Not a great pic but shows the fixing.

They are also rock solid and don't open....even at speed smile They also look discrete however I do prefer the look of older star ones, if only they were not so fragile and stayed locked.
