Hi all.

Just wondering if anyone here has massed about with mounting angles on the water radiator before? And their findings?

Racer running a little warm last time out and wanting to put a bigger oil cooler on (34row over 19). My thoughts are if I can cool the oil more it'll naturally cool water. Ideally wanting to mount cooler in front of rad but without blocking to much of rad off.

At present, 19row cooler sits behind rad, mounted in front of chassis, with ducting to it. I could fit the 34row there too (I think) andmodify the ductingto suit but looking at other ideas too!

Currently getting the bottom 'mouth' fibreglassed up so everything that goes through the front will go through the rad rather than escape out of the bottom/uut the sides which will hopefully help too!

Over to you guys!

Thanks in advance!!

Can you share some photos of the front of your car and existing oil cooler so we can have a look?

If you can improve the airflow easily I'd do that before bothering with a different oil cooler etc.

Do you know how hot your coolant and oil are actually getting?

First thought from your pics is that while the ducting for your oil cooler in front of the radiator looks fine, the flexi ducts on the back will take a huge amount of efficiency out of the system, plus the ducts and cowl on the oil cooler itself are blocking a huge amount of airflow off the back of your radiator - I can't quite tell how much of a gap there is above the fans but it won't be helping the fan efficiency as well as open area

I'd definitely move the oil cooler directly into the nose of the car, ideally at the top of your coolant radiator where you currently have the ducting, then just let it vent into the engine bay off the rear face

Fit a smaller oil cooler (or wider and shallower) if you need to, to get it in the space, but I'd bet the overall system performance would improve

Next step I suspect would be some gruntier cooling fans - on my Griff I've fitted a pair of 750W jobbies from an early V6 Freelander - like eBay item 141425729773 - I made an ali radiator cowl similar to yours, cut these fans out as an assembly from the Freelander cowl and bolted the two together. They're fairly quiet, fully sealed and a lot more powerful than the original TVR (Spal?) ones, and about as big a diameter as it's possible to fit on the back of the radiator. Just check your power supply can cope, I've fitted a few relays with a direct feed to run them at half speed unless the engine gets really hot.
