Am I to old to go to this gig?
Discussion
I went to see WA earlier this year. At 46 I was the youngest of the group of mates I went with and it's probably true to say we were all old enough to be ths fathers of most of the audience. But who cares, it was a great gig. I regularly go to concerts and festivals with my daughters who are in their 20s, they're happy to be there with me and we all enjoy ourselves. Surely better to go check out some new music than limit yourselves to the predictable dad-rock stuff (though we did have a great time at the Stones in Hyde park a couple of years ago).
I went seeing Area 11 (a sort of high energy Power Ranger type rock band - guitarist is a well known Minecraft blogger) with my 16 year old son and his girlfriend at the Birmingham Academy a few weeks ago.
Not really my thing at all really - but not far off.
The queue before hand was amazing, akin to a 'Twlight' prom night full of teenage angst - lots of eyeliner, tattoos and far too much flesh!!!!
When we got in it some became clear that there was a parents side and a kids side.
Got some funny looks when saving him a place on the barrier when he was getting a t-shirt though.
All the old folks were litterally lined up against a side wall whilst the kids went off and did there thing. I must say so that as someone with long(ish) hair and a Randy Rhoads t-shirt on I think I was the coolest dad there A woman next to my looked like my old maths teacher and spent the whole night with her fingers in her ears!!!
You could tell that this was the first gig for many there though, the reaction the support band got was unreal.
But that's playing to bunch of impressionable 14-18 year olds though.
You won't be the oldest parent there, but please, for gods sake, don't turn up in chinos and a check shirt!

Yes, but I've only been asked as I have to drive them up to bristol.
Surely its not been implied that you're only welcome for taxi driving purposes ??A mate of mine, Marc Mosley, has a regular set at the Ministry of Sound and plays at some of the Pukka Up boat parties. I do feel ancient when he invites me, and various other mates from Huntingdon to be his guests; the majority of the group is in their twenties/early thirties and I'm a grey haired fifty year old. I get the occasional disparaging glance but as Marc kindly reminded me on the last visit.

meh fk it - you like the music go enjoy it! Went to Ramblin' Man last weekend the the audience were my generation/age (50) with a good amount of younglings thrown in. I've been to Evanesence & Nightwish where me and Mrs Iroc wherein the minority and we still loved it which is, when all is said and done, all that matters
Go! You van be that pervy old guy at the back who can't keep his eyes off the nalf-naked young ones.
Just kidding...go to the gig.
Me and my old man go to gigs now and again, and he's 73. Admittedly we see stuff that would attract an older crowd and woud be seated. The last gig was Joe Bonamassa. He's kind of given up going to standing gigs though as he can't help losing the plot at annoying fkwits. We saw Peter Green a couple of years ago and I came back from the bar to see him and a bouncer manhandling a middle aged bloke out the side door.

So how was it, OP?
Excellent, Id go and see them again. Bristol academy has great acoustics and they sounded spot on. If I had one small criticism it would be that they were only on for just over an hour.It was a great experience for my daughter as this was her first live gig.
Oh, and I wasn’t the oldest there either.

I got talked into taking my 15 year old daughter and her friend to see wolf alice in Bristol this September. I was impressed with their set at Glastonbury so Im actually looking forward to seeing them myself but heres the problem, im 52 and have a sneaking suspicion ill be the oldest one in the audience.

Go along - it will be fine.
A couple of years ago at the ripe old age of 35 we went to Bestval on the Isle of Wight.
Despite me being everso trendy and down with it I really struggled to get hold of any 'party supplies' as apparently, being that old marked us out as undercover police. FFS.
I am to turn 45 but will be going to Glastonbury yet again, and no doubt will be partying to 4-5am again, the only reason you sound old is not sorting out supplies before you arriveA couple of years ago at the ripe old age of 35 we went to Bestval on the Isle of Wight.
