Stupid, stupid idea.

Does that mean the Ligier, probably the best chassis in LMP2 is out? In fact does it mean 14 of the cars 19 car/5 out of the 7 chassis on this year's LMP2 grid are out?

The Ligier is built by OAK (Onroak).

Strakka are changing to LMP1 next year and have retired the Dome after its DNF at Le Mans. They will now be running a Gibson in LMP2 for the rest of this year. Gibson (formerly Zytek) did not tender in the LMP2 selection process.

The Alpine is also made by OAK.

The Alpine is an Oreca 03 with a new name, the Morgan badge engineering project is an OAK though.

I read the story as Strakka are not entering LMP1 until 2017 not 2016.
They will continue this year in the Gibson but 2016 race plans are unclear?

Indeed, no mention of 2016 but they do say that stopping racing (2014) hurt them. Maybe a season in ELMS in '16 whilst developing the P1 car?

Has that been quoted anywhere? Very much hope it is so, but no mention of 2016 LMP plans in any of their press.

"The team will also switch with immediate effect to an ex Greaves Motorsport Gibson 015S LMP2 chassis for the remainder of the 2015 FIA WEC to allow their Dome S103 chassis to be converted as the test and development ‘muletta’ for the LMP1 project."

That doesn't mention 2016 unless you have some insider info, I expect a lot comes down to costing - running the P2 team whilst trying to build and get up and running the LMP1 look how much rebellion struggle just getting both cars to the first race (or not as the case maybe).

I am presuming that Strakka will be in WEC P2 in that Gibson next year, too. No way they can change the S103 ready for next year now - it'd be a hard job for a factory team, never mind the litle team that can from silverstone.

Hoping to see an announcement from Greaves at some point - they have the Kairos / SARD setup now, both of whom previously expressed a plan to do p1 with SARD Morand before that fell apart.

Meanwhile, having been kicked out of P2, i think that the other catalyst for the rule change, SMP / BR engineering might just enter P1L as well. They have the budget, and the fact they built their own p2 with no wider customer sales means that IMO they're more likely to do P1 than sell customer cars to P3..

Final mystery? jota sport - but I think they'll stay in ELMS, probably with an Oreca. It'd be a brave team to go Dallara or Multimatic IMO..

But, as always - time will tell! smile

lol, you'd make a better point if you used pictures of the R8 =)

Anyways, IMO the R8 sucess was from the Audi side - the original Dallara car wasn't that quick, and it became sucessful when Audi added reliability then speed (developing with Joest). The Dallara - Chrysler was also behind, and got quicker when developed by Oreca.

Why do I think it's a brave man to side with Dallara? IMO they do a great job of spec series stuff, but I'm not aware of anything they're doing in free chassis competition, and the HRT design wasn't exactly the fastest of the 3 newcomers to F1. I might of course be very wrong, but I suspect that Onroak and Oreca not only have a lot more expertise on prototypes (Dallara is more an open wheel outfit to me, anyway), but in addition the French pairing have current experience of developing in a competitive environment. Will Dallara still have the edge needed, or are they more used to designing "safe" cars in that pretty much everything they're building competes only with itself?

Not wanting to be overly disparaging to them of course - Dallara are still a great outfit - but they'll have to be if they're coming back to the P class after a 15 year sabbatical..

Suggestion from Tim Greaves in the Pitwalk show at LM (on Radiolemans.com) was that P1 is already on their radar and their target. Hopefully firm plans were already in place on that basis.

What of JOTA though? Not heard anything said there. Obviously they have strong ties to Audi; first customer chassis maybe? Simon Dolan's a Silver driver which may put them slightly on a back foot against Rebellion, but then so is Nick Leventis at Strakka and we know they're heading to P1.

I'd love to see Jota in WEC P1, but suspect it's more fan optimism than reality - they are in ELMS, not WEC - and haven't just changed to a shiny new sponsor with P1 ambitions. Do i think they'd do a good job? Absoloutley. Do i think they have the budget in place to do it right? Maybe not - but they have a year to change that smile

Ps - other bloke - P2 isn't a full spec series with 4 chassis to go at. I was referring to Dallara's spec series dominance where they don't race against any rival chassis in most series that I know of - is F3 the only multi chassis one they're in now?
