After a spirited driving holiday in france I picked up lots of squashed bugs which got baked on in 42 degree heat.

Used the usual car shampoo and some turtle wax brand bug remover but the residue of the bug splattering can still be seen.

Any tips for removing them gratefully received

My choices are some decent all purpose cleaner, sprayed on and left to dwell. Rinse off with warm water. Get a better bug remover, 1Z make one.

Auto clay can be used with some lube

Then apply a decent wax to protect. Job done.

I use a large beach towel soaked in hot soapy water, lay it on front of car while you wash the rest. After a good soak they come off easily.

Cotton dishcloth, wetted with warm water and a little Fairy Liquid, gently rub the offending bug splat.

I found these wipe off bug residue easily when drying the car off:

The problem I can't overome is the stains that are left on black paintwork. I currently use AutoSmart all purpose cleaner and leave it to dwell for a few minutes, it gets rid of the marks but an impression remains. Word of warning to anyone else using all purpose, it will also take off any protection, like wax or sealant.

Gtechniq's W8 Bug Remover is significantly more efficient than Citrus Power & gets my vote - I tested both side by side on an M5 front end a couple of days ago.

cheers
