Jetboil and equivilents

The Mrs is after something compact to produce hot water rather than lugging a separate stove and kettle when hiking.

Jetboil is the obvious answer, and I think the Zip should suit her needs, but the Primus ETA light and MSR Wind Boiler look to be similar. Any others I should be looking at or issues people have had with any of these?

Check the Alpkit one (I think it's called the brukit). I've not got one but have other kit from them and it good stuff.

Looks like the Brukit is a bit bigger at 1000-1200ml to the Zip's 800ml, which might be a bit too big to use as a mug as well? Impressive kit for the money though.

Considering they're available for preorder there's a lot of reviews suggesting they've been on sale for a while, is this an updated version?

I've just bought an unused Zip second hand for a bargain £30 for fishing.
I just wanted something as small as possible for heating water and must says it's superb, very simple, compact and quick and good on gas too I'm well impressed.
Best but us how it all packs into the cup.
There's no real gas control so cooking on it would be harder and you'd need the optional pan thing but just for water it's awesome.

Having used a few in the field I would recommend the Flash unless the Zip now lights by a click ignition source. Great things. Fill with water (can put a sealed bag meal in to heat if out on a proper walk), then open the meal, make the coffee, food and drink.

Have a look at the Jetboil Minimo,that has a better control of the flame. Blacks have it for £95 and Gooutdoors will match that price and knock another 10% off. Ill be getting this next week.

I have the Jetboil Flash, the Sumo cup, a frying pan, the stacking bowls and the 3ltr group cooking pot. I use the Flash probably one a week, normally whilst waiting to pick my lad up from school,ill make a tea a coffee or hot chocolate. Have a look on youtube for different foods you can cook up on it.

She says she's only really after it for heating water quickly and with minimal fuss. She supervises DofE trips, and the staff usually eat in a pub in the evening so it's only water for tea/coffee/porridge.

Much as I love my MSR Whisperlite it's a bit of a faff compared to these gas ones, but I mainly got it as I can siphon petrol from my bike rather than need to take a spare gas canister if I'm away for a few weeks, so a bit of manmaths suggests get her a better one and we can both use it on shorter trips.

If you want it for longer trips on the bike I stand by what I can say and you can use it for bag meals if doing a bit of wild camping etc. The big difference to me though is the electronic ignition, out properly on the hills it makes a difference.

Likewise, I love my whisperlite, I use it for extended cooking and brewing, or if its really cold out, but... for a quick cuppa, or a camping light trip I tend to use the jetboil as its so much less faff and more compact.

Ordered the Jetfoil Minimo yesterday from Blacks, managed to get it for £86. Ill give a test when it comes on monday.

That's a good discount for the Minimo! Ended up getting a Flash for £76 from an Amazon trader, not arrive yet though.

Cheapest I could find it. Problem is Black have it for sale one day then it's gone the next then a couple of days later it's back.. Very strange marketing.
