I have a 1997 Peugeot 106 1.1 that seems to have a few problems. Sometimes when starting it in the morning, after it starts up if I blip the throttle it stalls. Start it up again and it'll cough and splutter before clearing up. Probably related is that it doesn't have completely smooth power delivery, feels like there's flat spots and no torque at low revs. It does seem to pull well in the higher revs though... Anyone have any ideas?

Check the basics first such as plugs and air filter, look out for air leaks due to split hoses etc.
Also worth cleaning out the throttle body and idle stabiliser valve if fitted with some carb cleaner spray.

Not too long ago I replaced the head gasket along with all the filters and spark plugs and cleaned up all the valves. It's the first few seconds when it's started that's noticeable, I'd have thought really most issues would cause poor running all the time. I'm not sure...
