Hi guys

I have a 1.6 Xsara, its just had the clutch release bearing changed as it was making a grinding noise when the clutch was up/coasting in low gear.

The garage have just been in touch to let me know that it is still making the noise and they now believe it to be the gearbox, they've said if I can source one they'll fit it free of change because I've already had the clutch done on their diagnosis which I'm more than happy with... however I have no idea what gearboxes are compatible.

Are the gearboxes compatible across the diesel and petrol engines, do I specifically need one from a 1.6 petrol to match my own?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes, I have!

Ended up using breakeryard.com and got a quote for £115 delivered which seems resonable.

Most of the Pug 1.0 to 1.6 TU boxes will fit, so long as they have the correct amount of change linkages (early have 1 link, later have 3 links) ratio's tend to be a little different between applications but unless you stick the 1.0 box or the 1.3 rallye 106 box on it wouldn't be too much to worry about.

It's the input shaft bearing in the gearbox, I'd be a bit wary of a garage that couldn't tell that from the symptoms, the release bearing isn't doing anything when the clutch is up.
