Looking to move from Wetheral to Rickerby.

Hello fellow Cumbrian (Scotsman actually) not close but not far - Shap. I look out for drives etc but always seem to see threads to late or date conflict. Good luck with the move if you find what you want..

That's quite a good point!

Not sure what defences are in place around Rickerby?

As Craig says, Rickerby can certainly be 'floody' every few years or so... And there are no plans to install flood defences there.

Why do you want to leave Wetheral? Nice village, couple of good pubs, health club, Fantails restaurant etc. I know Rickerby is nice but Wetheral is nicer in my opinion.

Looking for a larger property and nothing we fancy has come up that is affordable.
In fact in 3 years of watching the market, only one house has come up for that we even viewed.
Same goes for Great Corby.

Will be wrench to leave the village but quite looking forward to a change of lifestyle.
The pub is just to handy!
Nicer house, garage, parklands and hopefully a nice little community.
Also Stanwix just 1 mile away for essentials, play groups/school (eventually!)

Flooded once in 2005 upto skirting boards.
That flood was a fluke though, fingers crossed.

How long have you lived in Carlisle? Rickerby flooding is no fluke - I grew up in stanwix mate and it floods every year! Maybe not to 2005 levels every year but I guarantee you it will flood again.

Mum and dad looked at the penthouse one when they thought about downsizing a few years back but the annual floods put them off.

100% agree.

I do not, for one second, buy the whole "once in 1000 year floods" and all the other things that get banded about these days.

Our weather has changed wether we like it or not and these things are gonna happen more often.

Look how many times cockermouth has been flooded in the last 15 years or so and they will no doubt get it again soon. Keswick as well, but at least they now have some decent defences in place.

No, I do some property development as a sideline and nearly bought a couple to do up there-not moving from ours any time soon!
